My worry with Lukaku is that he doesn't seem to do much outside of scoring goals, which isn't enough at the very top level. I think a few years ago Lukaku may have worked better as a Drogba replacement but not sure he will work as well as a Costa replacement under our current system.

Morata I think is more of an all rounder, brings players into play a lot better and has proven he can do it at top clubs in top leagues. The P.L is different of course but he looks quality.

It'll be Lukaku though. Looking more and more likely.

    It is a real possibility.
A lot of teams seemed to switch to 3 at the back this season once we did.
maybe he wants to keep things fresh and change things up.
changing to a 3-5-2 would keep opposition on their toes, but then there is the old adage, "if it aint broke......" etc

Personally, I prefer 2 up top. I trust Tony C to get it right though, whatever he decides.

You think Drogba did nothing but score goals?
He was everywhere, all over the pitch, he defended set pieces like a mofo.
I agree that Lukaku is more like Drogba than Costa, but by your rationale you are saying you think all Drogba did was score goals?

I doubt he'll rely on them, but I think he's already shown he's prepared to give them time on the pitch.

If they're good enough, they'll get games, providing they put the graft in. That's probably why Rashford's ahead of Martial under Jose.

John Flanagan consistently made the starting 11 of your greatest ever PL side, I wouldn't want us to be in that sort of position.

tbf Flanno played really well that season and was even named 'The Red Cafu' by many people! Cafu even came to watch him and said he was very impressed.... all a bit bizarre I know <laugh>

Wasn't Jose pretty much forced to play Rashford due to injury? Luckily Rashford has the quality but often these young players come in and then disappear for good when the person they replaced is fit again. Or was it LVG that was forced to play Rashford? I'm feeling a bit timewarpy this morning so not sure!

Drogba was a far better diver than Lukaku too, imo.

Rashford's big break come after Will Keane got injured during a game under Louis, but I'd imagine he'd have broken into the team by now either way.

Jose obviously played Zlatan as his number 9 and rightly so, Rashford wasn't and still isn't ready to lead the line for us alone. He's been playing from the forward left position for most of the season, because Martial had some 'trouble'.

The defenders are who I'm worried for, links to Varane and Lindelof, that'll only push Fosu Mensah back again, unless we can just dispose of Smalling.

Everytime I've seen Fosu Mesha play he's been excellent. If he ends up in that predicament he surely has to consider his options? Would be shame for you to lose him, but understandable I guess.

I think Varane is the one you need, not so sure bringing in 2 CB's that will most likely be first choice is a wise move. Plus I have no idea who Lindelof is, I only know of him due to Matth's tweets.

I've seen very little of Lindelof too, I'd imagine there's an element of truth to the rumours though, I can't see Varane happening.

Hopefully Fos will go on loan if he's nudged further back down the pecking order, I wouldn't mind him going to Saints for a season to replace VVD when you lot si... oh, oh yeah. <laugh>

Lukaku is at his best when we're playing on the break, his pace and power make him almost impossible to stop when he's got space to attack.

However, when sides sit in, he can sometimes be ineffective and his overall contribution is questionable at times. Oh and enjoy his first touch :)

I wouldn't say Drogba was all over the pitch but then few '9's' are. He certainly defended set pieces but that's a bonus rather than something you buy a forward for.

With our current system, you get a lot of inter changes between Costa and the 2/3 players operating behind him. Drogba did this less in my opinion and he was used to hold the ball up to give the attacking mids time to get up the pitch and come into play. It wasn't the intrinsic play or quick counters we use now. Lukaku can certainly play on the break but not so sure how effective he'll be on the edge of the box when teams are playing 10 men behind the ball at the Bridge.

He's been absolute stinky soiled pants at the major international tournaments he's played at ... doesn't bode well for a team with UCL ambitions tbh ...

He'll score a shed load of goals with your midfeld. Look what he's done at Everton with a **** midfield

  20. It's so obvious that Costa is off and Lukaku is in.

I hope the Chav nay-sayers are right and that Lukaku bombs, but I don't think he will.
