Unfortunately the public have never really thought that they were actually the owners of state owned industries - had they done so then the theft of them would never have been tolerated. They always think 'state owned' means controlled by some alien power - rather than thinking 'you and I are the state'.

I do think that attitude is changing though - especially amongst the young who, from what I can gather, pay more attention to politics on social media. That could be why Theresa May isn't such a fan of the country's youth.

Or why she doesn't like the internet as she cannot control that in the same way she can the press.

:emoticon-0111-blush Not sure any politician likes the internet in the sense of social media. It is a place where bad news surrounded by 5 tons of drivel spreads faster than any other form of information.

Seems strange to me how people like Trump allow themselves to get dragged into such a swamp.

The best policy on this of course comes from the raving loony party:

    Social Media
All Social Media sites to be taken down for one day a year for a “Remember when we used to talk” day.

But we are where we are as they say, and I guess political parties have to use whatever to get their message across. But I hope the hustings don't get moved on-line. Watching a politician live face to face can tell you so much more and you know there is no cgi, cut and pasting, and you can put them under pressure.

    <cheers>

"Facebook has stopped people posting on election day."

"The site has stopped working and people are unable to post links or share any articles."

"The problems come as the UK heads to the polls in the general election. Facebook has been one of the central platforms of this election, with parties spending millions of pounds on advertising to share on the platform."

Looks as if the one day a year might have arrived kc. :emoticon-0116-evilg

OFH I've followed the Raving Loonys for many years (used to live very close to HQ) and it never ceases to amaze me how many of their polices make perfect sense (obviously often not literally but the thought behind them). Just a bunch of educated people who enjoy a pint and can have a serious discussion while laughing at themselves. So superior to all the other political parties. Of course with an ambition to always lose their deposits not much chance of them forming the next government - worse luck :emoticon-0143-smirk

Examples: Reduce the voting age to 16 (carried forward from our 1983 manicfesto) ..(nicked by labour))
Immigration policy: One in one out (carried forward from our 2015 manicfesto (nicked by UKIP))

I'm not exactly sure that is accurate - have posted links and shared articles this morning...

Is there a link for that, or can't you share it on here either? <laugh>

On the press thing, here in Spain it is much the same as in the UK. But bribery and corruption are alive and well here; despite it getting a little better after a string of footballers, bankers, politicians, and even a princess getting dragged through the courts,

And another sort of parallel is the leader of the old socialist party ‘PSOE’ when he resigned on principle. He said he would not work with the right and when his party said they wanted to, he walked. He then went to the grass roots and was promptly re-elected as lider. But he is a cool good looking guy (so I’m informed by the females here) so no similarity there.

If Spain cold just get finished with the Catalan indy thing then one can easily see a left wing government here.

Has there been some sort of collective myopia over this referendum?
    Read the highlighted sections...
The only way in which it was binding was because the PM said so...

The Prime Minister is now a leader in name only. From all that I see and hear the Ministers are no longer are going to be told what to say and do, they are taking control over her, and telling her what to say and do. It is quite amazing to see the papers who supported her so strongly turning on her. David Davis said just before the poll, that lose their majority and they would lose the mandate to push on with Brexit. That has happened, so a lost mandate, a minority government, and a country that is fragmented over what should happen next. It is no wonder Tories are calling her "dead meat". Not a very nice description, but I can understand the anger with her.

JC has said he will use the Queens speech vote to oust her. I wonder if her Party are hanging her out for slaughter....

There was a reference to this in Hansard that I'll have to dig out - basically saying that in response to a proposed amendment to that Bill by Alex Salmond, a Tory minister said there was no need as the referendum was advisory and the outcome would have no affect on legislation...

A Monday meeting with the 1922 committee - sounds like the axe is swinging.

And how many days now until Brexit negotiations begin?

Britain can slash Brussels regulations on clinical trials for new drugs and on building near protected wildlife habitats now that it is leaving the European Union, Michael Gove said in March this year.

Michael Gove has returned to the Cabinet as Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs.

It is great that Michael Gove is back in the cabinet, a very intelligent guy plus an excellent proven minister.
