Yeah it seems that way to me too. A sort of you and us both know what happened and so do the PL, but if you withdraw the interest then us and the PL will leave it. Saves the hassle for all parties.
There is a difference between who you want and who you will "make do" with. It happens to all clubs, it's how far down the list you have to go that matters.
It's a fudge at start mentioning media speculation... but after that I would believe it was verbatim from a Southampton demand. I'm also fully sure you will be selling him to city or Chelsea in August and search for a new cb... and all the guys knocking him here will be eating their words when he delivers the prem title for the team he goes to.
What are you talking about down what list? If player is identified and klopp wants him we will bid for him. If we get him we get him if we dont we move on. I dont think klopp will buy a player for the sake of it.
Chelsea tapped up our DOF, Frank Arnessen, 12 years ago. They had just been punished for tapping up Ashley Cole. Daniel Levy knew that they were on for a points deduction for a second offence and demanded and got £10m to drop any action. That was when £10m was still £10m. The two clubs haven't exchanged a civil word since and we sold Modric at a slight undervalue to Real Madrid when they'd been at it again. It's a grovelling apology because you're right. They've got you bang to rights. It's lucky that Southampton just wanted an apology, Levy would have had you pay his wages for the rest of his contract.
So reading the last few pages, VVD is not so good as you thought a couple of days ago and Saints will now have to sell him for fourpence-ha'penny. Ok, I know he will leave and most Saints fans would be very happy with one more season from him. With his absence through injury it's easy to forget just how imperious his performances can be and that he only cost us £12M. Don't give up hope. For the right price, all this unpleasantness could go away.....
With four years left for n his deal next summer the fee could be just as high if Southampton hold on to him for a season
It is common practise for a manager to identify areas of the team that need strengthening, they will then produce a LIST of 3 or 4 players for each position that they think will fit into the team with preferences given. This is the LIST I speak of, clubs set out to get the managers first choice in each position but very rarely get first choice for all.
Not saying there isn't others out there. But he most certainly isn't bang average like you said. He really is top drawer, has literally everything to his game. He'd walk into every team in the league bar maybe Spurs (Toby & Vert* partnership) in the league without doubt. *He's better than Vertonghen though.
Normal person: Doesn't that depend on who messed it up? MITO: Hate him regardless of whatever happens in the history of time ever.
Looks like Klopp ****ed it up by going and talking to the lad without his clubs knowledge/consent. Nothing to do with this Edwards chap.
Exactly. Which is why I've said on our board for a while that if it was upto me then I wouldn't sell him even for 60m this Summer. As good a deal as it may be there must be a point where it's better for us to keep him for year. I'd tell him that he was happy enough to sign a 6yr contract a year ago and he can honour a 3rd of that. Still be worth big bucks next year and if he knuckles down he will have huge clubs after him still.
I will say one thing, if he still ends up going there this Summer after all this, both this thread and our board will be ****ing mayhem
