The biggest fraud is probably online streaming now, I can't imagine many knock-off DVDs still get sold.

It's generally the same 'people' engaging in both. At the same time.

It's VAT, income tax, Capital Gains Tax and National Insurance. Corporate tax avoidance is even bigger apparently. Around £160 billion a year in the UK through tax loopholes. Technically, it's legal, but they should be closed imo.

It's massive, particularly in clothing, when Lambretta was at its peak, we had at least one container of goods seized and destroyed every month and only a fraction of the fake goods produced are ever actually discovered.

No, the true cost of benefits fraud is circa £1.1bn, to put that into context the DWP pay out circa £2.1bn in error!

Nobody knows what the actual cost is, the money they save through catching people is about £1.6b, but they obviously don't know how many are getting away with it.

Not sure if its just Hull but my ex-wife was from Stoke and they called them Foreigners (god knows why).

To meander further off topic is it only Hull that calls 2 up on a bike a croggy? It seems to be a backie everywhere else.

What's wrong is that if you get charged less tax by mistake, no matter how long it's gone on for, the government demand the shortfall back. Fair enough, but then if you get charged too much tax by mistake you're not allowed to claim it back.

I always thought 'backie' or 'lifty' as they say in london were truly unimagitive names.

You are now! But in the big picture I think the government know cash in hand gets paid in the end?

Definitely a croggy in the midlands.

Collins dictionary claims it's Northern England and Midlands dialect.
