We had a % on him, but sadly due to circumstances we had sold that earlier to Spurs to keep afloat. What an earner that would have been....though I believe we got a small amount because of payments due to clubs where the player spent their youth. If a player spends their youth at clubs A and B, both can claim a small sum from all subsequent sales. But you have to claim and apparently many clubs are unaware of it.....Southampton of course never miss out on that one, but its the little clubs who can benefit the most if they get their claim in in time.
Lots of reports that we have raised the asking price for VVD to 75 million for Liverpool. Nice if true, but regrettably I am sure the rumours are just feeding off each other. No price has ever been set, so hard to see how it can be raised. Perhaps it's a clever ruse by Katharina to get Liverpool to pay her upcoming tax bill.
I would love that, but never say never in business. May be in our interests to accept a daft offer for an unsettled player.
All this talk of Van Dijk and Bertrand is based on what a few newspapers are assuming what's happening. Bertrand tells friends he wants to leave, Saints want 75million for Van Dijk, Van Dijk chooses Liverpool. All without a single quote from either player, agent or respective clubs. Now I'm not saying none of this is true ( no smoke without fire) but the initial story about Van Dijk choosing Liverpool stems from a reporter who bumped into Van Dijk at the champions league final. Trying to get a story he asked him if he had spoken to Wynaldum ( I know I've spelt that wrong) about Liverpool and He said he had spoken to him about Klopp. The only facts we know are what we read in the echo because it comes from club. Van Dijk has not asked to leave and there is no bid from Liverpool (yet). I think it's the newspapers and media that need to be investigated. As it is the papers that seem to publicly negotiate transfers on a daily basis.
Oh ofcourse Fran, But there will be a multitude of teams next season who will be desperate for a CB World class, And even this summer, Teams could still come in.
This, I don't understand why VVD would close off his options by saying he preferred one club over another, and there are no quotes from him. Just like there is no evidence that City or Chelsea were in for him, backed up by Saints saying there have been no offers. It is all coming from Liverpool driven media to try and say "look at us we are still a huge club beating City and Chelsea to a signing" He could of course still go to Liverpool but I don't think what is being said atm is very close to the truth
Southampton believe that Liverpool have been feeding the media...that is hard to prove. However, VVD has been said to have met with Klopp in Blackpool....that's so random that it could be true and possibly provable.
If no other good comes of all this, at least the Blackpool Tourist Board get a boost. In fact it wouldn't surprise me to find out they manufactured the whole story just for the free publicity. In which case
Nothing is ever 100% true. There is always nuance, interpretation, deception; and most of all everything is always changing, all the time.
Again the Bertrand stuff is 100% true. The person that told me is too close to make **** up or twist the words. Could it change? I highly doubt it.
Yeah, I don't doubt that Beefy. My point is that truth is subjective, circumstances change, people change, and no man can ever really see what's in another man's mind. Bertrand may well be intent on leaving, indeed I accept that he probably will. So may VvD. Neither have left yet.
Press can only print what they hear/ or are told. Bertrand has wanted to leave for months and had made it clear.
Which is a bit odd because in all the interviews I've read that he's had, including video, on the subject of wanting to go elsewhere, he has said that it has never crossed his mind and that he is perfectly happy at SFC.
Here's one for example: http://www.dailyecho.co.uk/sport/15266000.Bertrand_talks_Puel__rift__and_Saints_future/ People will believe what they want to believe. It's quite possible that some players tell the truth too.
