Let's us hope that by the early hours of Friday morning the Southampton Parliamentary constituencies are Tory free zones.
In my view Corbyn is an idealist rather than a realist...........Sadly he doesn't have the backing of his own MPs. He is being heavily backed by the unions but the traditional labour voters are confused by a lot of the things he is now saying. I E Trident....he accuses May of back trading but he is doing the same thing in other ways. In truth if you could take half the labour manifesto and half the Tory manifesto put them together and you might have a decent government. Sadly I feel I couldn't trust Corbyn in the Brexit negotiations. Although in truth I only trust the tories a little more or should I say May a little more. A difficult final decision for me.
How can you trust a woman who keeps changing her policies the way May has? And who is scared to debate the issues face to face with Corbyn? At least Corbyn has never wavered from his principles in his career.
Whoever gets in should put the Brexit issue to the back of the queue (and quietly bin it) as there are so many other pressing issues that the Government should be getting on with.
I guess I am looking at the people around her, the people who actually will be at the negotiating table. Err......... Didn't Corbyn actually say once that if he ever became the leader of the country he would do away with Nuclear weapons? Isn't Corbyn changing his beliefs.......Could you trust him to defend this country? When he recently stated he didn't back Trident..........
Like Brexit, Trident is not an important issue whereas getting 20,000 more police officers definitely is. Dealing with extremism in all its forms is an issue. Investing in our primary, secondary and tertiary education systems certainly is with the best quality teachers. Pay needs to be improved. Improving the pay and working conditions for doctors and nurses in the NHS. These are far more important than the farce called "Brexit" and the Trident nonsense.
He has committed to a "no first use" policy and knows that if diplomacy failed to the extent that nuclear war broke out, we would all be annihilated. What, then, is the point of having Trident? By saying he agrees with renewing Trident he is going along with party policy, but he will try and change that policy. I would much rather have Labour's negotiating team fighting for the best deal for the U.K., than a party who have already said they would take no deal at all!
So you believe that by putting all your cards on the table before negotiating is the best way to get a good deal out of Brexit?
Oh I do agree with a lot of what you say........but adding 20000 more officers is not a guarantee it will stop terrorism although granted it may help. Trident is an important issue in my book. It is this countries main defence mechanism. No matter who is in power they are going to have to put a lot more resources into the health and education systems. But just by suggesting the bigger salary earners will pay for this will not bring in enough funds. So far Corbyn has got his sums wrong (that is if he actually knows what the cost would be) and my fear is they will lead this country into bankruptcy just like they nearly did before.
Who's done that? Labour certainly haven't, although they rightly acknowledge that we'll be completely buggered if we can't retain access to the Single Market.
Depends how you look at it............All May has done is too warn Europe that she wants to negotiate....but if they want to play hard ball.........Then so be it! I agree we would prefer that not to happen, but it is the best way to start with them knowing if they are not going to be reasonable then we will go it alone. Europe has as much to lose as we do. Corbyn suggests by his rhetoric, he would take any deal. Which is not a good starting point for negotiating. Wether he actually means that or not is another matter. Anyway I have added to the debate and will not be making further offerings.......Cheers......
Corbyn suggest nothing of the sort, that is completely wrong. He says he wants the best deal possible for the U.K. The fact is that currently ALL our international trade deals are through the EU, so unless we retain access to the Single Market we have to start from scratch, which could take many years. Can you imagine the degree of austerity the Tories will inflict upon this country if we have to start bargaining with every single trading nation on earth?
May be a unpopular opinion in the current culture of nationistic we can do everthing ourselves rhetoric, but in the modern world i dont see any reason why we need to foot the bill for a continous at sea nuclear deterent all by our selves. Personally I would rather have a nuclear sharing agreement that provides this and protects the west from nuclear strikes at a fraction of the cost than having every country with their own independent arsenal.
Trident is not our main defence mechanism. How did it help in any of the conflicts we have been involved with since it replaced Polaris, which itself was never used? And Corbyn's manifesto is fully costed, unlike the Tories', which contains no costings whatsoever. May has committed to selling off all the buildings, land, and other assets of the NHS by implementing the Naylor Report. She is also going to make people who have paid a lifetime of National Insurance contributions sell their homes to pay for care. This is in their manifesto. And as I recall, it was the global crisis caused by sub-prime mortgage lending that led us to the last recession rather than the Labour government.
Should have said Nuclear defence mechanism..........Sorry Chilcs but your memory is not as good perhaps on monetary issues involving the Labour party....... I am not just talking about recent problems. However it is plain we are never going to agree........So as usual we will have to agree to disagree......
Maybe, although there aren't that many countries with nuclear weapons and I'm not sure how many would be prepared to pay for it. One of the few reasonable points Trump has made is that few NATO members meet their defence spending commitments. My initial thought is this sounds like a good idea but I think it would probably be too difficult to agree. First question that pops to mind is who would ultimately be responsible for deciding when to use it?
You aren't mentioning the current state of the National Debt, which is £1.7 trillion, that's about double what it was in 2010. What was all that austerity for, and what has that money been spent on, apart from tax breaks for multinational companies?
Ha ha, thats like the time that Thatcher was asked what her favourite pop song was and she said "how much is that doggy in the window"!...
As someone who used to work where trident is manufactured, i strongly agree that trident should be closed down. Huge waste of money. Literally the only thing that may hold me back from that is the amount of people that would lose their jobs, but we should 100% invest elsewhere and create more jobs in renewable energy, NHS etc.
You must all be so gullible to believe that Corbyn has changed his tune on so many things. He voted against all the terror laws as did John McDonnell. He was against Al Qaeda being prescribed a terrorist organisation. He voted against TPIMs and voted against Police and MI5 having access to e-mail and internet records. He addressed a rally in 2011 stating (his words ) "I’ve been involved in opposing anti-terror legislation ever since I first went into Parliament in 1983" He opposed arming the police. He has always been anti EU. Do you really believe that he has suddenly changed all these beliefs while you warble on about it being important to deal with police numbers and extremism? How gullible are you? The guy opposes EVERY measure to try and deal with terrorism and extremism yet suddenly when the opportunity arises he has changed his tune? With him and McDonnell at the helm you are more likely to see the red book being used as a source of inspiration more and more often. And despite Abbott being hooked today have no doubt she will return if Corbyn wins because she believes the same things as he does and also voted the same way as Corbyn. Abbott even voted against the Maastricht Treaty which she hadn't read because she believed it was racist and would reduce immigration!!! You are voting for absolute madmen (and women.) Absolute loonies. See how all those in the PLP that were so vocal about Corbyn's extremist far left tendancies are now backing him? Abbotts replacement is Lyn Brown who only last year quit his front bench in protest at his leadership trying to get rid of him. They are all just power hungry and are now backing someone they were ridiculing themselves just a few months ago. Do you trust this lot? You must all be mad.
