I agree, a good quality of life for any animal would mean free-range, with a good diet. Effectively making it high-cost.

So is there such thing as Organic Halal?

Not from what I've ever come across Tel. I go to the local butchers, of which there are about 5 in and around my vicinity...or Tescos. I've never seen something signifying Organic(I may not have noticed it)...best I've seen is the Official 'Halal' sign, not sure if the conditions are part of that stamp of approval though.

You have to be looking for it to know whether the chicken is good or not....Some of those Pakistani butchers will promise you the world and sell you some dodgy chicken mate...

    Edit..
That goes for some of them Bangali's...I get mine from a South African man don't lie..

The chicken thing is interesting, I always assumed pork was haram due to it being deemed a dirty animal, yet much of that chicken out there is probably worse.

I'd imagine back in the day when the rules were spoken, battery farms didn't exist and chickens were all free range.

Pork is not haram because its a dirty animal, its just haram that's it really.

As for the battery farms didn't exist before doesn't matter though, the way we farm chickens and so on is grotesque, laws need to stricter as these are food we are consuming and the government don't really care as its all money at the end of the day!

So why is pork not allowed, did 'they' just give no reason?

Of course the battery farms need shutting down, they're absolutely disgusting and the animals are pumped full of **** that is finding it's way into people's diets who refuse to look at what they're eating. I just hoped that Halal/Kosher etc would be automatically swerving it by default, but it seems not.

There are various reasons given for it I believe in Hadiths and by Scholars but it doesn't matter at the end of the day as its haram and the bigger picture might be something we as humans don't see anyway.

Don't be silly if Halal swerved in the main stream, The Sun and The Mail would have a field day, you asking for trouble here.....

There are some things that are not given explanation further than it being a test of obedience etc.

It always comes across strange to non Muslims and Muslims who haven't looked into the detail.

Like fasting. It's the only thing we really do for Allah. As it means giving something up. But it's not the starting or the end, what I mean here is that once you are convinced with a creator and his method of communication (books/prophets etc) them some of the other things don't really matter in terms of over questioning.

We only buy from a halal butcher in MK.

All you can go by is the look of the meat on sale. Where the guy buys his meat from I've no idea. But it's bloody good!

Having said that, we're 90% fish 10% meat So it ain't a big deal.

But we'd never buy halal from the major stores.

Gonna show my ignorance here and also reveal I've never asked my wife, but I thought pork was haram because pigs are omnivores and theres something in the Qur'an about not eating omnivores on the basis that those animals may have eaten decomposing meat. Or even human flesh, which may have happened back in the day.

I vaguely remember a conversation with an American scholar out in Saudi about this stuff and he was explaining context, but there was a shot load of Sid being drunk those days.

Why wouldn't you? I'm interested to know.

I only go if I fancy something I can't be bothered be doing myself...such as marinating a chicken. Much rather go to an actual butcher
