I'm laughing at you, Skids, because I know you have only a scratch 'n' sniff knowledge of footy.

If I thought you ought to be taken seriously, I'd be laying into you, right now.

  2. Not for the best RWB in the Prem, it isn't.

£60m all day long - if Levy is in the mood to sell; £75m if he isn't.

We won't because nobody will be bidding Bale/Ronaldo/Suarez money for a ****ing right back.

  6. You think Bale/Ronaldo/Suarez will sell for £60m?

    Bale signed for 77m
    Ronaldo for 80m
    Suarez for 75m.

  8. Wasn't Bale sold for something like £89m?

Anyway, that was a while back. Prices this Summer are expected to be mental, especially from the top Prem clubs, for players under long contracts.

I'm not saying that Levy won't let Walker go for £40m, but if he does, it will be because something so drastic has happened that Levy wants rid quickly. Even then, £40m is cheap for the best RWB in the Prem, and one of the best in Europe. For £40m, Levy could let him go abroad, which I am certain would be his preferred option. If City want to deal, I suspect that Levy is going to be demanding big bucks.

  9. Birmingham City manager Harry Redknapp could sign former Republic of Ireland striker Robbie Keane on a free transfer after watching the 37-year-old in Michael Carrick's testimonial game. (Birmingham Mail)

    Walker isn't worth 40m.

Not sure how you can have the cheek to call him one of the best in Europe considering how awful he's been in European competitions and in internationals.

If he's asking north of 30m for Walker I can imagine that clubs will see players like Sidibe, Alves and Pereira (the Benfica one and the Nice/Porto one) and all of them would be better value for money.

  11. What player is worth the price-tag put on his head, especially Prem players, and internationals to boot?

It isn't about worth, it's about need and competition. Supply and demand.

Spurs, yet again, finished above United, City, and 'Pool, in 2nd spot in the Prem, and Walker was a major part of that success. All the teams I mentioned need to rebuild, and Walker would improve their squads.

If you think that Levy is going to let Walker, in his prime and under contract, go to a rival club for anything other than a king's ransom, you are very much deluded.

The last player he sold to a rival was Berbatov to United, for in excess of £30m, and that was 9 years ago.

So, you are saying that United, City and 'Pool will only buy a RWB from a club that did well in European competitions?
    <doh>

Yeah, that's right. Because those clubs are going to be falling over themselves to sell their best players at bargain basement prices!

    <ok>
    Excellent!

That's both sides of the equation happy, then!

You must have missed the it where I said that Levy doesn't need the money?

I'd agree with that bit highlighted in bold, he'd improve United's squad. I think Ashley Young has been a poor option as back up to Valencia and Walker would be a far better option to have in reserve.

I'd rather have one of our own though at that price.

Says a Bell who's not had one real football conversation on this board other than waving the BBC gossip column flag. I suspect if brains were dynamite you wouldn't have enough to blow off a very small cap. :emoticon-0136-giggl

Well done on missing the point, spectacularly.

The Manc clubs won't go spending 40m on right backs who have failed on the big stage.

Especially when there are others for cheaper/similar prices who have more age on their side and have shown better performances at higher levels.

The only way I see them spending the higher amount on Walker is that they'll see it as weakening a top 4 challenger.

If Walker is worth £75 million then Caesar Azpilicueta is worth £100 million using the Bells logic.

  17. No, I haven't missed the point, at all. You are suggesting that Levy would let Walker join a Prem rival for anything other than a king's ransom, and I am telling that he won't.

In which case, Levy will tell them to **** off. That suits us fine, as we probably don't want to sell.

Or, do you imagine the telephone call going like this:-

Pep: "Hi, Mr Levy! I want your boy, Walker. How much?"

Levy: "He's not for sale. Anything else, or is that it?"

Pep: "Look, I want to take him off your hands, but I am prepared only to pay a small price, because despite the fact that you have finished higher than us in the league in successive seasons, you (like us) have been disappointing in Europe."

Levy [bashing his phone on the desk]: "Sorry, this doesn't appear to be working! I said, Walker isn't for sale."

Pep: "I'm not going to give you £40m, Mr Levy."

Levy: "I don't want your money, now please **** off!"

    [Levy replaces the hand-set]

In which case, why is City even contemplating buying Walker?

If there are cheaper options than Walker, then they will buy the cheaper options... unless City consider the cheaper options to be more risky than Walker.

Walker has proven himself time and time again in both the Prem, and at international level. Whether you like it or not - and it is evident that you don't like it - these things carry a hefty premium.

Which is why Levy will want far more than £40m (even assuming that he is prepared to sell to City, or any other rival).

  18. Walker is worth what Levy is prepared to sell him for.

It really is as simple as that.

    <laugh> You're a ****ing loon.

If Levy starts quoting 60+m then Man Citywill look elsewhere because as I've said there are better fullbacks who have proven their worth at a higher level than Walker at a better price.

Ultimately you'll be left with a pissed off player that the manager doesn't seem to want having said goodbye to a fair price.

I haven't been following this thread, so what makes you think that the manager doesn't want the player?
