Thing is, whilst I don't agree with some of our foreign policy, the extremists themselves say that it doesn't particularly influence them. They say they want to kill us because we don't believe what they do.
I think the problem with all of this is that 'the extremists' are a disparate group with no identifiable organisational structure - while I don't disagree that some might claim to be motivated by extreme prejudice that is detached from any outside influence other than a hatred of everything 'other' - there is also first hand evidence by self confessed ex-extremists that report being converted through longstanding grievances with (particularly but not exclusively) US and UK foreign policy. So I think there is space for both viewpoints here - which doesn't make either of us 'wrong' - but perhaps just illustrates the complexity of the situation. I suppose my overall fear is that as long as our foreign policy is interventionist with dubious financial and political motivations then we can expect some significant degree of backlash.

ISIS are losing their territorial battle on all sides. Increasingly, they will seek to keep their murderous ideology alive by having their Trojan Horse agents preach intolerance and violence in mosques and carry out atrocities against civilians in the countries that form the international coalition against them

I spent most of today waiting for news of my nephews one who lives with his girlfriend in Borough Market and the other who was meeting friends for drinks at London Bridge. It was a long day, thankfully both safe. Even in this day of technology they still could not get a message through to say they where safe. I don't know what else to say, other than one of the scariest days of my life! RIP to all those who lost their lives today.
