We cannot allow this ideology the safe space it needs to breed - yet that is precisely what the internet and the big companies that provide Internet-based services provide,” Ms May said. “We need to work with allies democratic governments to reach international agreements to regulate cyberspace to prevent the spread of extremist and terrorism planning. The Conservative manifesto pledges regulation of the internet, including forcing internet providers to participate in counter-extremism drives and making it more difficult to access pornography. Ms May speech is thought to be the first time she has publicly called for international cooperation in bringing forward more red tape to cyberspace, however. http://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk...-a7771896.html **** off May
FFS, was waiting for something like this. Governments always try and use terror as an excuse for new legislation.
It's nothing new from the Tories. They've been calling for legislation on the Internet for some time. They're just reiterating it while they've got people's frightened attention. Wouldn't surprise me if they invented a direct tax for it as well, by the back door. The internet is our last area of freedom, and they are chipping away at it all the time. It is something to be resisted strongly.
Donald J. Trump ✔ @realDonaldTrump At least 7 dead and 48 wounded in terror attack and Mayor of London says there is "no reason to be alarmed!" **** OFF TRUMP completely out of context JUST **** OFF
Donald J. TrumpVerified account@realDonaldTrump 4h4 hours ago Do you notice we are not having a gun debate right now? That's because they used knives and a truck! **** OFF TRUMP, JUST **** OFF (72 deaths in the US from guns in the last 2 days) http://www.gunviolencearchive.org/reports/number-of-gun-deaths
Whatever happens on Thursday, the Conservatives should be looking for a new leader, one who is going to take them back to the mainsteam of European Conservatism. Unfortunately there is no one in the current Conservative with that mindset so the party grandees should look outwards. If I was a Conservative voter I would want Sarkozy to be the next Conservative leader.
So she regulates the cyberspace!! That is not going to stop terrorism or thuggery either. Think your time is up, Madame May!
Part of Corbyn's speech (copy-pasted from The Guardian's live blog)... You cannot protect the public on the cheap. The police and security services must get the resources they need, not 20,000 police cuts. Theresa May was warned by the Police Federation but she accused them of “crying wolf”. We will recruit another 10,000 new police officers, including more armed police, as well as 1,000 more security services staff to support our communities and help keep us safe. Our democratic values must be maintained. We must resist Islamophobia and division and turn out on 8 June united in our determination to show our democracy is strong. And, yes, we do need to have some difficult conversations starting with Saudi Arabia and other Gulf states that have funded and fuelled extremist ideology. It is no good Theresa May suppressing a report into the foreign funding of extremist groups. We have to get serious about cutting off the funding to these terror networks, including Isis, here and in the Middle East.
And I don't think anybody, even those who wouldn't politically align with Labour or with JC, can disagree with any of that.
Here, here. I hope this doesn't get spun as Corbyn wanting to 'talk' with those implicated in terrorism because it's such an important point.
And the standard, ridiculous response from the Tory party: Conservatives attack Corbyn's record on counter-terror policy Posted at20:05 Security Minister Ben Wallace has hit back at Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn's claim that Conservative cuts to police numbers threaten public safety. He said: “This was a hastily arranged speech designed to help Jeremy Corbyn run from his record on counter-terrorism policy, but it failed." Mr Wallace claims the Labour leader has "boasted about opposing every single counter-terror law" and had previously opposed the the use of "shoot-to-kill" by police. He also claimed that Mr Corbyn had "given cover" to the IRA.
http://www.cornwalllive.com/cornwal...iticised-her/story-29921400-detail/story.html Dozens of reports that people were blocked by Sheryll Murray are being posted as the MP finds herself in the middle of a storm on social media. Conservative Mrs Murray has been accused of sabotaging a bill aimed at helping disabled people since Friday. She was called "awful and despicable" on Twitter as she was believed to have carried out a filibuster - talking for long enough to the House of Commons to take up all the time allowed for a bill - during a debate about the Disability Equality Training (Taxi and Private Hire Vehicle Drivers) Bill. Another policeman calling out May.... http://www.independent.co.uk/voices...t-wrong-police-cuts-theresa-may-a7772506.html
Theres May facing a royal **** storm. Everyone who actually deals with tory cuts directly slating her. She is appalling on TV. Her manifesto is a car crash. - yet, shame on Britatin, she will still win this election. However, she called it to give herself more seats and an unconditional control over Brexit - and I think that will soundly misfire. Small mercies.
