Well, Maiga has confirmed himself that talks have taken place, Pieters has confirmed strong interest and I think Lyon have already confirmed that a bid for Cissohko has officially been made by us.

I know we can never say for sure, but given the information going around, we can be very confident that a left back and striker will be brought in. And by the looks of it, they won't be cheap.

That's one thing I've noticed about Ashley this season. When a player is sold, he doesn't seem to be afraid to spend the same, if not more, on a replacement. Nolan went out, but Cabaye came in, Enrique went out, but we're already lining up a replacement for more money, Routledge went out, and Obertan came in, and Pardew has went on and on about getting a new striker before the window closes.

Perhaps, for all his stupidness, he realises that quality replacements are essential to avoid a poor finish or possibly even a relegation battle.

Squad size increasing as well, Marveaux for example wasnt anybody's replacement, just another member of the squad. And we're replacing Carroll with 2 strikers as well, Ba and whoever else comes in.

Yup. IF these signings come off, things won't be as bad as some people make out. We'll have more players, more depth and more quality in certain positions (namely strikers and Cabaye in midfield).

Should be a good season I reckon.

PS: People just have to look at other teams to realise that it could be far worse. Even Everton are barely buying anyone. £30mill+ for a team promoted only last season is frankly completely unheard of. West Brom came up with us last season and I think they've only spent £5mill this season on Shane Long.

Chappaz this is all well and good but there's a hell of a lot of 'ifs' in this thread. Lets just wait and see.

There are, but they aren't so unrealistic. There's more and more growing ideas that were going to sign a left back and a striker, and by the looks of it, they won't be cheap.

I'll now be very surprised if we don't hit £30million in spending this year by the time the transfer window closes.

A lot of jumping the gun here. We should wait until Sept 1st to praise or criticize the Ashley regimes business in this window.
Very exciting possible signings to come in but wont relax on further possible sales until the window closes especially following Pardews statements on our inability to keep players from going to "Big Clubs".
As for being a selling club, like it or not any club outside of the big few will struggle to keep players if the big boys come calling. Buying hopefully good young players with a good sell-on value makes good business sense allowing a good profit from these players if they go so we can hopefully have enough money to replace them and make a profit thus increasing the viability of the club which we all know was desperately in debt.
Ashley has made some big mistakes and one or two other questionable decisions but hopefully we do look like improving as a team and as a squad, have a quickly improving academy, great facilities and are reducing the debts rapidly so i remain hopefull for the future including this season but as ever we will all have to wait and see.
Am not an Ashley supporter but not totally against either, again time will tell on his record here.
