Yeah will be interesting to see how he does there, I feel like Aussies need to hit the ground running or else they lose their appeal quickly. Kruse and Taggart have floundered because of injuries, while Rogic (despite a couple of knocks) and Mooy have excelled because of consistent game time.
Probably at the end of the era before money really started kicking in, they never got relegated so he never had to jump ship.
I am enjoying the way people keep referring to 'loyal players' who turned down more money and chances of success to remain with their clubs, while overlooking that they all played for clubs to which they are geographically attached. None of that applies to any of our sought after talent, save for Tymon. Did Clucas or Harry turn down our offer to remain 'loyal to their club'? Did they bollocks. If an offer for more money from an established top flight club where they will play then every single one of our players will go. Quoting rumours about interest not materialising or players throwing away crowd pleasing lines is pointless.
That's a fair point. Would be funny if Maguire turned down offers since he's from Yorkshire, although obviously doesn't have a whole lot of attachment to us, moreso Sheff United. Clucas I don't see staying beyond this season if we don't go back up, but think he'd be the sort to stay with us for one season to give it a go. At the end of the day though, Chez wanted to stay but we bundled him out, so it's not always down to the player.
I'm just saying that he was the end of the poor football player, by comparison to today's players, we'll never know what would have happened if they'd been relegated & a top team had come in for him. Yes he was loyal & still supports them, but if silly money had been around back then, I'm pretty sure he'd have gone. Rooney is an Everton fan, you wouldn't have believed it since he's been with Man Utd.
He doesn't want to leave, not now that he can't be replaced, he tweeted yesterday "Now more than ever! #atleti #alltogether."
The loyal players named having geographical connections to their clubs? Our players now courted not turning us down when at previous clubs to which they had more connection?
I think Bummers is on the money with this one, there's no reason any of our players would turn down a better offer from elsewhere.
