Not all footballers operate that way. Jakupovic has apparently already said family is more important. Several players stayed with us last time we were relegated to try and push us back up at the first attempt. It does happen.
Jakupivic has been linked with moves away. Robertson was linked with moves two summers ago. As was Hernandez.
If a Premier League club comes in for any of those three, don't expect them to say 'no thanks, I'd rather play for Hull City'. Unless it's Huddersfield...
Well as I've already said, it seems Jakupovic has said precisely that. The other two I was obviously making a reference to the last time as evidence Clucas might give us one season to try and get us back up, which is also something he seems to have hinted at in interviews.
So then why has he been quoted as saying family is more important and the HDM also reporting that he's settled here and not interested in leaving?
See I took that to mean he'll do what's best for his family. If a club offers to triple his wages, he isn't going to say no, not at his age. When thinking about family, it's not just about what school they're at or where his wife works, he's 32, so probably got 5 or 6 more years in his prime and he isn't going to get another shot at PL first team football.
It always baffles me why fans think players should be loyal. At the end of the day, footballers only have a small window to earn good money and Jak has had his best year in English football. His next deal could make him set for the rest of his life. He could go elsewhere and earn £30/40k pw, city fans will moan but we'd all do the same in his position. It's only a job to him.
Look at Griezmann tonight, said he wanted to stay at Madrid. Sure it had nothing to do with Man Utd cooling their interest in him. Player's often say what fans want to hear, doesn't make it true. If Eldin is offered a PL move where he's no.1 he's gone
