Following my rant just before the start of the season about the moron in my local gym making fun of The Shirt, it was a pretty interesting and positive day today. Didn't do much - nice long bike ride, gym session (at my new gym), a pint watching the football at lunchtime and the inevitable trip to Morrison's. I was wearing one of my white away shirts and it seemed like everyone wanted to talk football... "What's Powell feeding your lot?" "Saw that bloke's goal on the box, brilliant wasn't it? "You won't keep that up, will you?" "You lot win another game and they'll all have to be dope tested." Two regulars at the pub reckoned we should be OK until we're on Sky next - having seen me with my head in my hands more than once in front of the big screen over the last couple of seasons. Even a bloke I regularly nod to in Morrison's who always wears an Everton shirt stopped to talk. Good to pick up the banter again, especially from the United and Chelsea supporters at lunchtime. What a difference a winning start makes. Long may it continue.
The regulars at my pub have been doing the same. Long may it continue!! We need a decent season and this is it!!
No doubt about it, we're off to a flyer...!! Can we cancel Christmas this year in order to ensure our good form continues... .
Im unsure about it- had a text at 3am from a friend saying "charlton looking good mate". Couldn't get back to sleep.
Sounds like spring in your step stuff Tewkes and co. I wish their was more of it over here, its all top4 supporters and then there's me ! CAFC !!
And Tewkes, think you got the title to this thread spot on, it really feels like they're playing for the team, the club and the fans (and, whisper it, the manager). But I guess everyone can be like that as long as you keep winning, the real test of the team will be when they do lose (and sorry guys, they will). Can't believe they'll crumble like last year, but it'll be interesting to watch their reaction... hopefully sometime in February when we're already on 70 points.
Spot on TVR... It's all sweetness and light when all's rosy in the garden and we're winning. However, It's only when we suffer a dip in form or we're not getting results that we'll truly know what they're made of.
A brief moment today is by no means that exciting at all, but given im in oz and like i have said a few times b4 it is all top four here in regards to who anyone supports, it for some reason made me feel dowright good for the rest of the day. I was coming back from the gantry at work chatting to a mate, liverpool fan, when a guy i dont really know(but always see in a chelsea jersey) was walking past and sort of squinting, trying to make out what shirt i had on. Most people assume its a Liverpool or ManU perhaps from a distance with all the red etc. Fridays we can wear casual stuff in the office. Anyway, without engaging me for conversation i could just make out what he was saying to himself as he had grasped i was in the colors of CAFC - "aaahhhhhhh, old school......... Scott Parker and co !!". That was it, but i was just happy the charlie shirt had been recognised and easily evoked a memory of past players (even if relatively recent with parker). Think the guy is about 26-27, and wears chelsea, so didnt think it possible he would know charlton at all.
