Sorry to hear that. I was devastated on both occasions that we had to do that. I was even in pieces when our cat croaked unexpectedly last year despite not having formed a real bond with him, although it was moe to do with the fact that Stan Jr was inconsolable.

Hope it wasn't too upsetting a day for you and the missus.

Another cricket match for Stan Jr this afternoon. Cracking win yesterday against a team packed with county players. Hopefully they're fresh enough to pull out a repeat performance today. Got another one tomorrow!

Thanks mate, it was awful tbh, very upsetting losing the big fella, but it was the right thing to do.

I can't believe how many matches some pro players actually play. I'm not big on names but on TalkSport yesterday DG was discussing it and the guy who's recently gone to India has played like 20 matches this month or something mental like that.

    Sounds like
I had to do that with one we had a few years back. I couldn't stay and watch, so I kissed her goodbye and left.

Burst into floods of tears as soon as I got out the door!...

You've done the right thing for him. Mrs Stan clung on to our first cat too long and in the end I had to convince her that it was time to let him go as he was clearly suffering.

    It's very tough though.

It's ****ing horrendous. We never had pets when I was a kid so I was apathetic to the idea of having them when I met Mrs Stan but she wanted them so we've always had creatures prowling around the house. I was surprised at how attached I got to the first pair of cats. We got them from a rescue. Initially we turned up looking for kittens but these two were sat in a corridor instead of a pen. When we asked why, the Cat Protection League lady said that they were new arrivals and there was no room for them, plus as they were five years old, they were unlikely to be homed quickly. So of course we ended up taking them home that day!

After the second one was put to sleep I really didn't need the vets calling me the next day to ask for payment. I told them as politely as I could that I'd paid in full the previous day. Not sure I was actually very polite but I did get an apology anyway!

Bizarrely I also got a "courtesy" call from Pet Plan the day after Stan Jr's cat died suddenly last year. Poor little fella was only three, his heart just stopped working.

Don't worry mate. We've got two dogs. I love the lab but find the cockerpoo intensely irritating. No idea why we needed to get her.

Even the name is irritating... Cockerpoo <laugh>

Mines a King Charles and he's a good dog tbh. Funny personality, he's actually got mental health problems.

It's a ridiculous name and, to be honest, they look ridiculous. Designer dogs :emoticon-0149-no:. I objected for months but eventually caved.

Our one surviving cat was described by the vet as not being "properly wired". We took him to the vet as he had open sores on his paws. The assumption was that he'd walked across a BBQ or something equally hot. But when examined he showed no signs of pain.

Did you ask him to properly wire him then?

I grew up with animals in the house. My Mum loved cats - Dad, dogs. So we had both. Plus 2 rabbits at one stage.

I love both cats and dogs. But dogs are too much of a tie for us. We like to be able to just take off when we feel like it. You can't do that with dogs.

I got savaged by a Dachshund at the weekend. An absolute **** of a dog.

Had no redeeming features whatsoever, it was ****ing horrible to look at and spent the entire time growling or whimpering. ****er. It was barking so I thought, being used to our mithering dogs, it was seeking my attention so I went over to stroke it and it took a chunk out of my hand.

I like our dogs but I'm like the ****ing pied piper, they follow me around the house and it gets on my nerves to be honest. I like a dog that likes its own space, not one that needs constant reassurance.

Always been around dogs and cats from a kid. We had a black lab when growing up, my parents got her when I was 2 and she died when I was 18, a proper companion as a kid, we'd do everything together.

I've lost two dogs in the last few years. It absolutely broke my heart having to say goodbye to them both. Was tough losing the last one as my little un was in floods of tears as the vet came to our house. She's got a good little narrative going on though about spirit Indy, who comes out for walks with her.

We've still got one dog. He's an old boy now though, 12 years old Rhodesian ridgeback. He's in good health even though he's slowed right down. Dreading the day he goes, but then another day will come when my daughter wants a dog of her own and we'll have the joy of a new puppy again.

Couldn't be without a dog. Beach walks just wouldn't be the same.

Are you a fan of Ricky Gervais? He does a hilarious piece about Rhodesian Ridgebacks at the beginning of his new Humanity stand up.

I won't spoil it but it's to do with them being 'designated' the job of hunting lions.
