The NHS isn't free. Everybody pays into it. That what national insurance is supposed to pay for.

So you decry well off pensioners for expecting free treatment on the NHS and free prescriptions but those people have been paying for it for 50-60 years.

    Ffs big man, c'mon noo.

Those who can afford it should go for private health care thus freeing resources on the NHS. Seemed like a good idea.

...except, in practice it doesn't work out that way. Firstly, the private health sector largely uses consultants etc from the public sector. Secondly, ****s that can afford private don't cos they can get it for free - up until their ouchy makes them skip NHS waiting and go private - thereby again drawing resources away from NHS.

Look at ObamaCare. The 'mericans went ****in tonto over the thought of an NHS style system. Their view is "**** you if you think I'm paying for someone else to be sick". They take out health insurance and God help any poor sod who can't afford health insurance.

My view is all in. We have a properly funded NHS paid by the taxpayers. Get rid of private health care to keep all resources within the NHS. Or, all out, adopt the 'merican model and get rid of the NHS.

    One or t'other.

    As already stated...

The administration needed to means test prescription charges would cost a lot more than actually filling the prescriptions.

Same goes for the cold weather payments for pensioners. An opt out option would be better. We keep hearing how Tory MP's are always coming across all these rich pensioners who are raging because the don't deserve the winter payments. Well let them opt out..

    Easy peasy lemon squeezy.

The rhetoric that somehow pensioners are a strain on the economy and the population is getting older and we are going to go tits up because of them is total bullshit. They make 50-60 years of contributions to recieve 20-30 years of pension payed at a rate that is one of the lowest of all the "civilised" countries in the world.

A country should be deemed civilised by the way they treat the most vulnerable in their society. The UK falls well.short of civilised.

    Just saying like.

Opt in won't work because the people most likely not to fill in forms are also the people most likely to need the help that free prescriptions give.

And ****s won't opt out because why should they? They pay their taxes they're entitled regardless of income.

It's a puzzler so it is.

Meanwhile back at the ranch we are paying billions in tax credits to subsidise people's wages and kids. Nowt said about that though eh.

In fact everytime a real living wage is proposed outrage is forthcoming.

But wait, pay people a decent wage that means the state don't have to subsidise their wages and that a terrible thing.

Who says so? The same ****s that have kicked up a **** about every national wage payment. The ****ing companies that's who.

Because we, the state aren't just subsidising low earners we are subsidising companies that pay **** wages.

    Aye but but the pensioners.

    ****ing wake up people.

The administration of means testing free prescriptions is far more expensive than just making them free to all. Mad ****ing Tory ****ers keep harping on about rich people who don't think they deserve it so make it easy for those people to opt out.

    Job done.
