I'm glad that someone has started this thread other than me! I questioned his performance during our pre-season friendlies and took some stick. I got away with criticising him in both of my match analysis with no reaction. Clearly the doubts are getting bigger. I though he looked like a little lost boy on Saturday. Some of his tackling was half hearted and more importantly some of his passing was woeful. Of course to make a good telling pass you generally need someone running into space, and there wasn’t too much of that going on as the game progressed. No need to panic quite yet though, he wasn’t that good in his early performances in the Championship either.
The problem is that many people say that the Championship is quicker than the Prem. Rubbish. It's more frantic (hence the number of comedy, pinball style goals on the Football League Show) but the Prem is much faster. You don't see many NPC teams score 8 seconds after defending a corner whereas the Premiership has quality and more pace than any league in the world. If you give ANY player less time than they're used to then they'll get shown up/found wanting until they get used to it - it takes time. Faurlin is no exception. My only concern is that, even though the players WILL get used to how much time on the ball they have, we still don't have anyone that can run quickly.
What's all the talk about getting more time on the ball in the Prem then? Or is that just a football fallacy? - A bit like the bloke who comes up with the gem: "We scored too early"
I've definitely heard it sad a few times. Either that or I've started subconsciously using Claridge soundbites. I love that "scored at the wrong time" too.
To clarify - I didn't decide to slate Faurlin after just one game. If you read my original post I'd mentioned that I'd questioned his ability while we were still in the championship. Others in the team are not up to the Premiership in my opinion, at least not at the moment, and the danger is that if we let our lack of quality show early on it is going to be an uphill struggle to win games. Most of the replies to my post seem to be positive towards Faurlin so the benefit of the doubt is his for now. My worry is that we only have four or five top quality players, my hope is that others in the Premiership also have teams lacking that same quality. Bolton were the kind of side I'd thought we'd do well against but we got spanked like a ginger stepchild. We need our own midfield general but at the moment Faurlin is at the Lance Corporal level. If he has genuine talent then he needs to start displaying it sharpish.
Couldn't agree more - and preferably one with skipper credentials. That ain't Faulin imo, insufficient self-belief and authority. As for your simile: 'got spanked like a ginger stepchild'⦠I can see what you're trying to say, but that's just plain horrible. Suggests beating someone else's slightly unusual looking kid is generally understandable. It's not.
There were plenty of games last season when Faurlin was the best player on the pitch, let alone in just the QPR squad. Give him more than one game, please.
I think Bolton did a job on our midfield as the game lacked any flow in the first half and we then had to chase in the second half. I think we have to accept it was a very poor performance from the team and to start picking on individuals isn't fair. If it's still as bad after our next home match then there would be some justification having a total of four games to judge.
@alefaurlin Alejandro Faurlin I'm just can't believe how we didn't win this game!! Really happy with the team perfomannnce today, looks like we play together for ages!! 30 minutes ago via Twitter for BlackBerry®
