No where like the scale of when Adkins left, but I will feel pretty ****ty if Puel is sacked or feels he has to leave.
If puel feels he has to leave because of fans then he needs thicker skin. Yes fans were wrong to boo after the final whistle against stoke but 5 games no goals, I can see the frustration. If he wants to succeed at the top level he needs to get some nuts.
https://southamptonfc.com/news/2017-05-28/top-instagram-posts-southampton-201617-season The best Instagram shots in the view of SFC....bit top heavy on Gabbiadini, but a nice idea. I will draw your attention to the absence of a shot of Puel. If I had been drawing up this list I would have chosen one of his pitchside celebrations.....suggestive, I think.
I agree if that is the only reason, but if he leaves 'voluntarily' I would suggest it would be after a discussion with Les et al and he felt he wasn't getting their support either. I would only stay if I had the board's support....but, if I thought I hadn't after achieving most of what I was asked to do, I would rather leave with an agreed pay off and get another job. No ones needs what he has put up with.
True. If he doesn't have 100% support from the board then they HAVE to have a replacement lined up. And fast. Teams are preparing for the next campaign and we need to do the same. Puel or no puel. Chinese or no Chinese.
Well yeah. If Puel believes in himself and what he has been trying to achieve then he should have the courage of his convictions, which I suspect he does anyway. However, he may feel that the negativity from the stands has affected the players - a comparison of home vs away form certainly suggests it has - and that therefore his position has become untenable. The atmosphere against Stoke was frankly poisonous, putting everyone in a no-win situation. I wonder how Jeremy Pied felt running on to the pitch to a chorus of "you don't know what you're doing"? Personally I'd sack a good % of the fans. Might be tricky identifying which ones though - maybe a booing monitor in each seat? Bit harsh if you ended up getting a ban for booing the ref...
A good point - Dependant on how advanced any takeover talks may be, the club may not be able to just appoint a new manager, without recourse to the agreement of any new owners. From a different viewpoint, any prospective new manager would probably want assurances about the money available/the backing of the board etc, and if we are in the throes of a takeover, nothing is certain, so would any new manager want to come here, if there are no cast iron guarantees that the manager will be able to work in the way they want to. I still want, but possibly no longer expect, Puel to stay.
"What's that, Shane just got some studs to the eye and has been booked for diving? Spiffing decision fine Sir!"
Why post this? Has Puel ever indicated that he may leave because of the fans? I've not seen or read that anywhere. Exactly the opposite. The man has brushed it aside and acted with absolute dignity. This is just a side swipe at the bloke. If anyone needs to grow a pair because of fan unrest it's Les (IF he sacks him because if that - even if he sacks him I don't think it'll be because of fans). Sorry lovelocum, I know you'll accuse me of all sorts now, but your statement here is uncalled for and totally unjustified. Perfectly ok for you to say you think he should go because you didn't like his style or lack of goals, but to accuse him of something that's not been said anywhere is a bit off. *I'll stand corrected and apologise if I've missed an interview where he has said differently.
