Maguire is a difficult one - probably depends who he plays alongside - on the positive side, he's strong, commanding, great when pushing forward, good strong tackler on the negative side his passing is inconsistent and does give the ball away too much - possibly due to over ambition with passing but main negative he's very slow and if he gives the ball away he needs someone quick to cover for him - Silva played him at right back a couple of times - totally wrong position for him where his inaccurate passing and lack of speed was a real problem and he got mullahed
State we woz in at Christmas, Graham Norton would'ha overseen an upturn in our fortunes. Silva sparkled at first, but by the end he was totally out of his depth. He searched the footballing world for square pegs in round holes that no one else wanted and brought them in on loan. For a while it looked like it might work but ultimately those players' parent clubs had sacked them off for a reason. He then panicked and became increasingly desperate, playing players out of position, making ineffective substitutions and introducing a zonal marking system that the defence where incapable of implementing. Bottom line. He failed. Maguire? He's laughably bad. Don't touch with a ten foot barge pole.
Phelan got us to the League Cup SF for the first time in our history, and got more points on the road than Marco Silva. FACTS
Thanks for your comments guys and I'm getting the impression that my impression was correct. I don't think we'll be interested in Maguire if he's slow and he doesn't look to be anywhere near as good as Gibson, who I hope we go all out to sign. Good luck next season and I hope things turn around for you.
Watford ffs marco!!! Has everyone else blown you out? They finished one place above us (I know they are still in the pl) they sack managers regularly, be careful marco if you take them down your reputation is in tatters although the fact Watford appear to be the only interested club suggests other clubs haven't bought into all the hype. It would have been a far greater achievement taking us back up than a bottom half finish with Watford
He's probably been promised money to spend at Watford. He wasn't given much money here, but I think they jury's still out on whether Grosicki and Evandro are good buys or not. The latter has had injury problems and the former hasn't had much end product yet.
Not only that but he puts out a few nice words about things which every man and his dog could see and some forget all what has gone on before and think everything's going to be alright.
Aye, he seems to want lowly teams to mark a change, or winners who will coast. Every job is a challenge, as Moyes has discovered. He's going to be interesting to follow.
Cheers for that. There's another one where Tom Hudds is pissing himself at the Arsenal ****stain, think Harry's grinning too.
