The Prix Jacques le Marois is run on 15th August, which is a National holiday in France called Assomption (one for the religious nutters). It happens to be a Monday this year. Similarly the Grand Prix de Paris is always run on 14th July, Bastille Day (one for the Republicans).
Dubai Millennium actually won 9 of his 10 starts - 7 out of 8 starts on turf. But for sure he was a very high class racehorse, especially over 10 furlongs - Frankel has a lot to live up to but he's capable of doing it, even though he doesn't quite have the natural cruising speed of Dubai Millennium - who also proved himself to be versatile between 8-10f and on different types of going.
I'm sure Shergar will be happy to jump on Goldi getting beat but one thing Goldi never does is shirk a race due to the going. She clearly isn't at her best on very soft going (only win on it was over 7f against Paco Boy) yet here she was battling her heart out on heavy going. What an honest mare she is. There are some horses that go unbeaten and considered great that would never have raced on very soft going let alone heavy. I suspect even Frankel might not have beaten the winner on that ground (he hasn't encountered anything softer than soft). I'm not suggesting for one minute that a horse should be risked on unsuitable going but it just highlights what a tough, honest and consistent mare Goldi is.
How about Immortal Verse beating Frankel? On a line through Zoffany and Mutual Trust she has. So KS stick that in your considerably over grown pipe. Great to see the fillies and mares dominate the colts...yet again!
I'd agree that Frankel has a way to go to be considered as the best of the best but i cannot for one minute have him lacking the 'natural cruising speed of Dubai Millenium'. In the Sussex he had Canford Cliffs, the supposed supreme traveller (even if slightly below par), off the bridle while he was still in cruise control. And in the Guineas . . . ?
DBF.....Get real, stop manipulating form lines. How about Frankels form against Goldikova through Canford Cliffs, well?
Canford cliffs was clearly not right against Frankel, and it has since conspired to be an injury. So you can throw that form-line right out of the window...........next
Shergar, forgetting all form lines, how confident would you be that Frankel would have won that race today on that heavy going?
Ron can i answer this one on his behalf? By 10+ lengths on the bridle, pulling up with his head in his chest obviously. But in reality i guess we will never know, as he doesn't travel outside of the UK and he doesnt race on unfavourable ground.
DBF....Yet were supposed to believe Mutual Trust ran to the same form today, and that Frankel ran to his best form at Ascot, get real! You realy believe Coolmoore's lies about Canford Cliffs, he's not injured there just trying to protect the very heavy investment they made in him
Ron.....Frankel would have romped home in today's race, and would have won by as far as he liked. Will you stop exaggerating the ground aswell, it was good to soft, not heavy as you keep wrongly saying. Goldikova has won on going ranging from firm to very soft, so good to soft isn't a problem for her
KS i suggest you check the "Dick Turpin" thread for the answer to the ground condition. And why didnt Mutual Trust run to the same form today?Because he was beaten lol?Heaven forbid that the formline through Zoffany might not be all that?
DBF....Frankel has raced on all types of going, and he has proved equally as dominant with cut in the ground. At the same stage of Goldikova's 3yo season she had not left France, so I don't get your argument
I don't think this is fair. He has never missed a race to avoid ground conditions. He won on Soft on his debut, and has since treated G/S, G/F and Good alike. I don't think there is any possible way that you can say that he doesn't race on unfavourable ground. I don't think ground is of any concern to him whatsoever. He seems to destroy his rivals on anything from G/S to G/F. The official ground for the Marois today was G/S, the same as for the Royal Lodge and Dewhurst. And yes Frankel would have won. He is different class to anything else around at the moment.
Goldikova is rated 125 and Immortal Verse beats her by 1 length so rated around 126, assuming that Goldikova ran up to form. Frankel is rated 135. But i agree that nothing is certain . . .
Ratings on not something i base a horses ability on.Look at Timeform and the hash they make a lot of the time. Prime exampleubai Millennium 140.Frankel 142(at this present time)Joint third greatest European horse off all time....yer think?
Ignore DBF, anyone with half a brain knows Frankel would beat Goldikova, and he wouldn't just beat her, he would laugh at her, much like he did Canford Cliffs, the same CC who cruised by Goldikova at Ascot. Goldikova is a good fillie who has won lots of poor G1s by small margins, but she doesn't have the brilliance of a great horse like Frankel
Does it matter which half Shergar because I understood only 5% of my brain is active, when I'm on form, but I've no idea which half it's it in. I don't think I've seen anywhere even a suggestion that Goldi would be able to beat Frankel.
