What else did anyone expect mate?

It's turned into a thread about religion. I could see it coming a few days ago...

It's been alright in parts tbf, there's been some decent respectful discussion in between the Punch and Judy act.

The most important thing the British public should be doing now is not alienating decent Muslims (99.9%) of Muslims. The last thing we want is further fractions for no rational/logical reason.

True, but if yoou're trying to sell it as 'true' then you need to be able to back that up with something more concrete than stories that are full of holes.

Informed ****ers if you don't mind, that aren't naive and gulible enough to swallow the guff, and free thinking enough not to have to rely on a failed doctrine for guidance. Your every reply seems to support the lack of credibility in your choice more and more.

Given the choice, '****er' seems preferable. :emoticon-0105-wink:

I'd love to think so. But unfortunately, just painfully obvious....

Who says I was only referring to here? You seem to be agreeing with me, but still hunting for an 'argument'.

Are you familiar with Exodus, or any of the other books of the Bible? If so, which translations?

Fair enough if you wish to dismiss the sincerely held beliefs of others, because they happen to disagree with your own. I would respectfully suggest however, that dismissing one of the oldest texts in written history as "bollocks" - especially if you haven't read it - doesn't say a whole lot for your open mindedness.

"There is one principle which is a bar against all information, which is proof against all arguments, and which cannot fail to keep man in everlasting ignorance - that principle is contempt prior to investigation" - Herbert Spencer

I have read it, and my deciding it's bollocks is therefore my opinion. I would respectfully suggest that instead of attempting to patronise and pour scorn on my knowledge that you merely treat my opinion as my opinion.

You can believe what you like, and hold a completely contrary opinion, not a problem, but don't get on your high horse because someone challenges the content of the scripts.

You're the one with the horse as an avatar.

You're also the one dismissing other people's sincerely held beliefs as "bollocks".

Is this the ten minute argument or the full half hour?

    Nope.

I'm not dismissing anyones FAITH, I'm challenging the content of the text as being largely fairy tales and fables from thousands of years ago, that aside from having a decent moral code at their core (in part) they aren't describing actual events correctly - that's called an opinion on the content, not on your faith.

Well then we're not a million miles apart. But I consider there to be great wisdom in many of those fables (as there is in, say, the Greek myths).

The story of Adam and Eve, for example, suggests that all mankind's suffering stems from his insatiable hunger for knowledge, and his desire to equal god in power and understanding. Eating that apple started our species out on a spiritual journey, a restless search for truth that can only be completed by the triumph of life over death.

I also consider the King James translation of the Bible to be one of the greatest literary achievements in the history of the English language. The poetry of the Psalms, for example, rivals that of Shakespeare, Milton and Andrew Marvell for the pure force and majesty of language.

There's nothing wrong with healthy debate I can see some are not answering others with respect for their views but in the main I'm surprised that most have.

Corbyn suggesting our overseas actions have perhaps brought terrorism to these shores.

Regardless of the selfishly bad timing and the fact that the bloke is an utter arse boil... that's another debate.

Does this work on the assumption that ISIS place some degree of value on the life of their fellow human, cos I've seen some videos on Bestgore and I must say, it doesn't look like they do.

Being an interesting book, doesn't make it the word of god.
