Minority? Lol you mean 68% as per echo vote of over 8,000 fans. That's a credible sample of the supporter Base in my book so nor sure why you think it's a minority. Sent from my SM-A300FU using Tapatalk
It may be a true reflection but anyone can vote on the Echo site including Pompey fans so I wouldn't rely on it too much.
Sometimes I think Saints have only themselves to blame when they don't come forward with news that wouldn't otherwise be giving anything away but would just settle home fans or put straight totally speculative reports in the media. The club inevitably behaves in a mainly late reactive way instead of being a bit more proactive, and supporters inevitably put two bits of unrelated rumour together and make a third or come to a crazy false conclusion. These things have a habit of taking hard root as well, so that when Saints finally spill the beans unnecessarily late there is a whole section of supporters, and indeed media reporters, who will assume that "well, they would say that", concluding that they are covering up some complicated truth. This head-down-under-the-radar method has many drawbacks alongside its benefits.
The anti Puel rhetoric is interesting as an observer, I've made my feelings known, so I won't bang that drum.... the interesting thing is the lack of alternatives. A lot of people jumped on the Marco Silva bandwagon.... but he appears to be Porto bound. After that, a few names appear, bit no one "high profile" enough. I don't know much about Wagner or Jakonovic, but I'd be happier with Monk-if it came down to the three. He's young enough to have point to prove, but also because he is slightly tainted by Swansea and Leeds, this may mean that his next club may be one he stays a little longer for? Intrigued....?!? I'd say that between the alleged takeover, and negotiations..... and the lightning les leaving no stone unturned approach.... it'll be a few days yet either way.
To be fair.... the news that you're in morocco is better than anything coming out of SMS.... if it's hot here, I'm guessing it's gonna be no cooler there....!!
Ah good to hear (about no news). It's cloudy in the morning then suddenly scorching, my pale blue skin can't take it. Fantastic place though, lovely people.
What you're forgetting here Whiteley is Pompey fans, should they vote, would most likely want him to stay to finish the job off.
Hee-hee.! Not sure I can smell the garden in your hair, from here.! It's a good song. Never did buy that debut album. Earliest CSN[Y] album I bought at the time was Déjà vu. Think I was only 10 or 11. Going into Suttons in Shirley and not buying pop singles, but buying progressive rock albums. That used to make the guy over the counter raise his eyebrows. My paper round and pocket money used to get some wear and tear, I can tell you.
Think all of this articles credibility goes out the window with this paragraph: "Southampton are in an unusual position this summer in that they don’t have a standout star who will be the subject of significant interest from rival clubs." He evens acknowledges VVD in the next paragraph??
There is a certain element of truth in saying no standout stars...obviously VVD is one. The danger for us is losing the VVD type of person and having the heart stripped from the team when several players go....but this season, our best players are mainly the type of player whose price is not so large that we can't ignore it (and neither can the player). Most players will not get (or be worth) an offer they can't refuse. That's not being derogatory...they are good players....but they are not going to attract attention from teams bigger than us...and therefore offers are resistible.
Just signed back in and found that Claude is now an old hippy, joined CSN&Y and gone to Morocco. Sounds good to me, he can stay. Like the picture of that 11 year old. I was 13 when I bought my first Robert Johnson album (sorry Long Player) from a proper record shop. Had to order it! Can't remember the name of the shop, but it will have been central Southampton - anyone help me out here (1954 for those with good memories or excellent Google skills!). Kids didn't really buy records at all. The customers were middle aged men of 22 buying Perry Como records!
Was replying to MLsfc and hadn't read article. Now I have, the author's reference to VVD does make sense.....his injury may preclude some offers (we should be so lucky), but also we played half a season without him...so it is not as if we are about to lose the star player that clawed us to our finishing position. Bertrand deserved a mention, but he shone more in the previous season in a more exciting side....I am resigned to losing him, but feel he is more replaceable than some players we have lost previously.
