That'll never happen! I would should Landicakes kneecaps if he tried to leave! Landon Donovan is worth more to the MLS than he would be to a European club. He's the American Poster Child for "soccer". Which drives up his price tag to more than he is actually worth. The only reason he is still in the MLS IMO. Theoretically if he were to sign where would he play for you? His best position is on the wings, but he likes to come inside to help dictate play, you have the likes of Lennon, Bale, and Piennar.
According to the BBC gossip site there has been a fee agreed of 1.8m. I would have thought we would have got at least 3-4m for him.
Saffa do you not learn- the source is the Daily Fail. I saw a piece which said that the deadline for MLS was 9pm, does anyone know if this has passed?
The supposed fee yesterday, was £5mm. Today, it's £1.8mm?? Somebody has got it wrong. Probably The Fail, as usual
Here ya go lads, I know it's goal.com, but there's a few more emerging now. Like most of you, I'll believe it when i see it on the SSN website. http://www.goal.com/en/news/13/unit...ain-robbie-keane-completes-initial-35m-switch
Let's hope so. I'm thinking Stoke being a bit more quiet about Palacios and Crouch might mean the deal is still on. Surely then we'd have no excuse not to buy a striker, right?
Agreed Schteffen. I read a joke of a report yesterday about how we're apparently going to be buying Llorente and Rossi. although this report was ridiculous, we need both players IMO, if we really want to progress. If that's keane out the door and it's looking likely that crouch will follow, we've got to do something soon and I'm sure we will. there's no way levy will leave us short after the berbatov scenario under ramos. i'm actually quietly confident now that we'll be pleasantly surprised over the next week or two. COYS.
Reports here in the states are that they agreed to a fee since the deadline was last night and they'll make it official sometime today. We're 8 hours behind you in Los Angeles, so people are still waking up. Hope Keane signs though, only thing the Galaxy are missing is goals from open play.
The Galaxy forwards have scored about 20% of their goals this year. We have to rely on Beckham corners and freekicks for goals. Or we move Donovan up top, but then we have trouble in our build up play. Our "star" striker has scored 3 goals this year. But should have about 20 goals so far this season with the amount of easy chances he's missed. He'd fit in at spurs!
Keane's not really a lead-the-line striker, though. He generally plays his best stuff when partnered with a technically gifted striker who's good at holding the ball up. He likes to drop deep into midfield or go wide, making it hard to mark him.
Odemwingie isn't a bad player but no way good enough for us if we want to progress. Also he's 30 so can't see Levy being too keen on him.
They way the MLS is with the Salary cap and what not, you get alot of big strong athletic but not technically skilled players or a lot of small skilled players, the Galaxy is one of the few teams that use both, most of their "muscle" is up top. We currently have 3 lead the line strikers, one of them who we have to get rid to get Keane. Our problem has been just scoring. We put ball in the right places we just don't have the right person on the end of them. Hopefully Robbie isn't moving because he'd rather be somewhere else, but because he just wants to play. And get paid for it
IMO the MLS is around the Championship level. The best teams would be pushing for protomion and the worst teams would be in the relegation battle. It took Penatlies for Man ****ty to beat the Galaxy who played mostly reserves and Squad players.
Championship? League 1 maybe but not Championship standard. Taking Man City to penalties in a pre-season means NADA !!!
