JD has made the squad again, but not JP!! Great news for JD but I'm disappointed for Jordan. Maybe biased but I thought the lad had earned his place. No room for Rooney either!!
Edit ive just seen it. How can Butland whos hardly played this season and Heaton who is not a patch on Pickford be picked infront of him?? What a piss take.
Provided he's not injured, factoring his arsenal performance there can only be one reason Pickford hasn't been called up. And that message that he needs to be playing premier league football to be considered. That Arsenal performance displayed his potential. Surely you want a talent like this to continue training with the national squad coaching staff and experienced players. To pick 4 keepers and leave out Pickford is shocking. He must have been carrying an injury back end of the season. It's the only thing that makes sense.
Id even have Pickford over Hart and Forster but thats another story. I can defo see him thinking about leaving now.
Yeah i think your right and if thats the case id rather him play in a tournament instead of sat on the bench for the senior squad.
Full 25-man England squad Jack Butland (Stoke), Fraser Forster (Southampton), Joe Hart (Torino, on loan from Man City), Tom Heaton (Burnley); Ryan Bertrand (Southampton), Gary Cahill (Chelsea), Nathaniel Clyne (Liverpool), Aaron Cresswell (West Ham), Ben Gibson (Middlesbrough), Phil Jones (Man Utd), Chris Smalling (Man Utd), John Stones (Man City), Kieran Trippier (Tottenham), Kyle Walker (Tottenham); Dele Alli (Tottenham), Eric Dier (Tottenham), Adam Lallana (Liverpool), Jesse Lingard (Man Utd), Jake Livermore (West Brom), Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain (Arsenal), Raheem Sterling (Man City); Jermain Defoe (Sunderland), Harry Kane (Tottenham), Marcus Rashford (Man Utd), Jamie Vardy (Leicester).
Pickford was at fault in 2 of the last 3 games for the oppositions first goal. He was at fault for about 3 of the goals in the Chelsea game.
As has been said he's first choice for the Tourney. Butland came back end of season last few games and in reality he's next in line at the minute, he was phenomenal before injury. That's who JP has to pass to get the shirt.
Defoe has 2 goals since February! How does he deserve his place? He has been poor for us since the England game IMO. You can say "where's his service" but he's had the same service all season - got 14 goals in the first half and 2 when we needed it most!
Spot on there The way Southgate talked about JP earlier in the season he has him ear-marked for future involvement - maybe he wants to look at other options. But i'm sure GS said it wouldn't affect JP if he ended up playing in championship. Really pleased JD is in the squad - toppa
He is a young English keeper with bags of potential but he is far from the finished article yet. Any big club who signs him will probably include a loan back for a season as he is not yet good enough for a top team. His shot stopping is currently above average and will only get better and his distribution at times is phenomenal but he doesn't command his box and has been at fault for a few communication **** ups with his centre half's. He has also been at fault coming for crosses he's got no chance of getting. He will get there and be a top top keeper I've no doubt but at the moment he is probably rightly behind the likes of Heaton and Forster. He's ahead of Joe Hart like. That bloke is dog ****e.
