Watching Ajax last night was like watching us this season. Passing out from the back and building attacks far too slowly, very little movement from forwards and when they did make a run they weren't seen. Players being very cautious, never willing to take a chance and being apprehensive playing with fear. Plus of course a very young team with a great deal still to learn.
We've been talking about this being a young team for years now, though. The problem is that, when many of those young players do learn things, they get sold and are replaced with other young players who have a great deal to learn. We're also not that young. Our apprehensive team this season was actually older than the team that held a Champions League place for more than half of the 2014-15 season.
Thanks Roy. I always take these posts as a compliment and an indication I've made a point someone hasn't really got anything left to counter it with
That's a good post. Referring to the bit above, Puel said at the very start of the season that he'd get us to play a style that would help the players get through the fixture congestion. He did actually tell us in advance.
He did, but that period ended up for all season minus about six games in terms of playing to get us through, and even in the parts where we had no congestion...
Ah,no it wasn't meant as a dig,you could take it as a compliment though you're very good at reading a long post and taking one (very) small part of it and giving a slightly over the top response, sometimes completely ignoring the point of the original post.
How long of the season did we have players who could create chances for them on a consistent basis? 35 weeks? Long old season hey. (I am aware that you could argue that the style we played was why we didn't make chances for them, but for me our most creative player - Tadic - has been a complete let down this season)
Guys Can we please stop criticising each others posting style.............Lets keep the criticism to football matters and not personal..........Enough of this Thread has been dedicated to, "you said this" "no I didn't you said that"...........and the rest.........Football matters please.!!!!!!!!!
The way the board has gone as a whole for a while now Beddy. Probably why it's been so dead in recent months.
Agree....can get boring arguing about semantics. A discussion should be just that....different or just differing opinions without an aggressive argument breaking out. This board has been quiet this season...may be partly down to the season we have had, but also down to over strong challenging...which can be counterproductive as it can cause views to be entrenched rather than thought about. For example, I may not agree with everything Ian says, but I don't get the attacks as soon as he appears. We don't want a stale board, do we? It will soon be just me on here....oh, God...it's me, isn't it?
Imp, mate. I know, I was winding you up. Incidentally, the action of some to lump the current Tories with some of the groups I've mentioned makes me hoot. My problem with May et al is that I think they have not a single clue about life at the ****ty end, and spout stuff that smacks of ignorance. It's not their fault, it's the way they were bought up. Shows the same level of misunderstanding as those who think Portsmouth is a football team worth following. On the film issue I am with you absolutely. I tried to see La La Bloody Land and just couldn't get my fingers to punch the right buttons at my local Vue. Saw some decent alternatives. But then we went with friends to the cinema and they insisted that we just had to see it. They are, of course, now ex-friends.
It's an Internet forum people. Opinions are made and challenged. Difficult to get the tone across in a written word and thus often explanations or questions on what was meant or the style it was written get asked. As long as nobody gets abusive or personal then there is not really a problem. Funnily enough, without the debating and pushing for exact points, explaining or questioning a view, you'd end up with a stake board. You think it's gone stale now, take that element away and it will become very stale.
In the 6 years I've been on it (virtually when it started) there has always been the same "bickering," so I'm not sure how that can be the cause of the staleness. Do you think it's that or just a general apathy towards the club/football? Or something else?
