Yeah, I'm sure the manager gets to sit in, but if he's already said he wants this player or that player, there's only the need to bring him in to update on the progress. We have a Director of Football system, just like they have at top clubs in Europe. A few years back that would have been a talking point in itself, but it would surprise me if most PL clubs weren't like that now. I think where we are still very rare is the fully integrated computerised scouting, tracking and data gathering system we have. My understanding is that Ross Wilson and his team does all the spade work regarding the actual recruitment of players. That's his department title after all. Incidentally, I'm almost certain Wilson is being groomed as Reed's successor, for when he eventually retires, which is one of the reasons why he turned down Rangers.
They would be slightly stupid in that case - as we all know footballers can be - seeing that he essentially created Hazard and Henry. He clearly works well with raw material, and I believe consolidation may have been this season's aim, given the Europa and League Cup runs. Perhaps that was his brief - aim to progress in Europa and take a domestic cup seriously, alongside maintaining our league position/top our mini league. I am sure the Board wouldn't have expected to improve on last season's league position, whether or not we had Europa. Point is, we don't really know, and I don't think it would change fans' mind even if we did find that to be the case.
The mob must never be allowed to rule. We let them do it with Brexit and they have wrecked the country.
Your words suggest that you think we should just follow the noise of the unhappy fans, even though you think Puel should be given his chance next season. Not for me that.
Puel is not everyones cup of tea but I reckon he is better than some managers but not as good as some others the players dont like him much but then Puel might not like some one them so that is 50/50 8th = good cup final = good no goals scored = bad ****ing boiring to watch = pretty bad too i think the board might sack him thinking about it
I get your point, but you mustn't take a comment personally unless aimed at you directly. Someone posts something negative that you agree with and someone else responds to that trying to counter it, doesn't mean it is aimed at you. I don't think anyone says that (my way or **** fan). What does get written though is over the top abuse of the man and the way things sometimes go wrong and more often than not, you get some posters who only post when things are bad. That exasperated the situation. I will say that I do think some fans are **** fans but that is not because they don't support my way, it's because I genuinely think their support is ****. It is ok to critique as I have done myself, but it is the (seemingly) refusal to accept things can go wrong that causes the divide. In my opinion. Before anyone says I only post positive stuff, I'll just print one word. Pelle
Maybe the best situation would be for Puel to remain, develop the squad further in his style of play, and be given money to boost our attacking threat. Then those haters who haven't given up watching altogether might be won over to the fact that he is actually a decent manager who knows what he's doing. The fact that our players can't put the ball in the net isn't his fault, given the chances they create.
I was disappointed not to see an upturn in results towards the end of the season....we should be scoring more goals. However, Puel has done well enough to deserve another season....but I hope and expect that he will be asked for an explanation of our poor form and what he intends to do about it. There has to be a turnaround ....which would appease the fans....though it can be very hard to get people on your side once you have lost them. People see what they expect to see sadly. If nothing changes in playing style/results, I can see this coming up again in January.
That worries me as well. I am fairly confident that given time, patience, & the support of the board, Claude can be a success at Saints. But I can also see a large section of the crowd getting on his back at St Marys from day one. Unless we're 3-0 up by half time in our first home game. I really don't want the mob to have their way, & I really don't want Saints to sack a potentially very succesful manager because of gobshites in the stands; but I can see it being one hell of a job for him to turn it round. Perhaps the knowledgeable St Marys crowd would prefer Sam Allardyce?
I have checked the final league table and there is only 6points between 8th and 17th 17th is one place above the relegation zone everyone So if saints had got 6 points less we would have finished 17th and not 8th ok sack that man now
I trust Les to make a decision based on his own opinion. Unhappy fans are never a good thing, but fans don't sack managers.
I really don't want those gobshites to turn up at all. I would rather Saints played their home games in front of the same core of 2 - 3,000 who follow the team away. I honestly believe it's no coincidence that our away form has been so much better recently because of the incredible away support compared to that at St. Mary's, which quite frankly has become an embarrassment. The Northam and the Kingsland corner are the only ones who make any noise at all, and when they aren't being drowned out by the away support the songs consist solely of OWTSGMI (usually good) or the usual anti-Pompey nonsense (bad, and also embarrassing).
I would argue your generation ruined the country, heating allowances, Christmas payments, right to buy etc. Glad the rest of us were able to contribute to **** up the cushy life you all had...
Sack Puel for not getting us relegated, when we didn't sack Lawrie McMenemy, who did get us relegated?
Sure Chilcs, its the fans fault we plyed boring and fairly negative football at home, and of course the players would prefer playing in front of 3000 people clapping happily instead of 30000
I think that all the managers of the teams from 8th to 17th should be sacked. They're obviously all rubbish. Get rid of them now before the rot sets in. (for anyone watching in black and white this text is blue)
