We have to remember the vast majority of Muslims deplore these actions.

Muslims I’ve known and know now are no different to us: some are arseholes like we can be, but most of them are sound – like we can be too. None of them have ever given me a whiff of alignment to these beliefs of extremism.

Most I meet nowadays just want to raise their kids in a safe environment – same as most of us.

Even though notions of justice and revenge are quite rightly burning through our veins, maybe it’s time for a different approach. Don’t misunderstand me, I believe anyone directly involved with these attacks and other attacks should pay the highest price – but maybe we need to look at how we handle and have handled certain parts of our foreign policy holistically.

Whatever we do, it’s clear what we have been doing isn’t doing much to tackle the spread of this extremist form of Islam: this organised murder and no matter how good our security and intelligence services are, some will always slip through. In fact, attacks have stepped up in this country rather than the opposite and if IS disappears as a geographical area - will its ideas?

Maybe we need a more peaceful approach, a more peaceful outlook instead of the blood and thunder approach we’ve seen of the past decade or so.

Maybe we need to talk to our ‘enemies’ and start the process of peaceful coexistence instead of refuelling this conflict at home and abroad for the generations to come.

Strength can come in many forms.

Also important to note that most victims of Islamic terrorism are other Muslims, and most people fighting ISIS and other groups, are also Muslims.

So, you don't have to be foreigners bombing Muslim lands to risk being the target for Muslims intent on mass murder?

No, and I never said that. ISIS are seen as kharijites, they filled a vacuum of power but the reason they carry out such atrocities isn't solely because the West is bombing the Middle East. They have other sectarian and supremacist motivations.

Your point is? I was responding to Leon's post. I've already seen the comments on newspaper articles with thousands of likes by knuckle-draggers wanting to close the border and deport all the Muslims, calling for a crusade etc. despite the fact Muslim taxi drivers, nurses, doctors and paramedics were helping the victims.

Why, so you can get pissed up again and make another rant about how we need to deport all the Muslims, then sober up and blame the booze?

Point is this thread is to think about and remember those poor souls who lost lost their lives last night. It isn't, or shouldn't be. for you or anyone else to pontificate or argue the toss over matters which are certain to have the thread closed down.

In other words knock it off..

I am surprised that the government have not ordered a total cancellation of gigs etc, until security can be assessed. Still I suppose the best thing to do is carry on and don't let the bastards win.

RIP to all those innocent people who went out for a night out but lost their lives.

The pattern seems to be that gullible young men are brainwashed by knowing older men with fierce anti Western propaganda, with the old 72 virgins carrot being dangled.
On that basis, it doesn't matter how much or how little we have or haven't done in their countries- it's a war of ideologies.
Baffles me why these gullible angry young men ( and their milder and less committed 'supporters') don't migrate to a country which more closely matches their own vision (no alcohol, no 'trashy' culture, no secular or Christian tradition).

Anyone involved with, harbouring or even concealing the identity of a terrorist or groomer should be jailed indefinitely.

That should help deter some of the moderate extremists and motivate more people to speak out.

I'm so saddened by the events last night and I don't want to rabbit on, but we have to find the preachers of hate who come into the country - unchecked - and send them back from where they came.

Sure, empty platitudes is the best response when innocents are murdered by scumbags.
