I'm thinking about getting my lad involved in cricket at some point.

He's 7 and hasn't played proper cricket though. When did yours start and had they previously played?

    Earlier the better mate.

But make sure the club is decent if you go down that route, and I don't mean a winning or top of the league club but one that gives a ****.

I played at a decent level, had it not been for injuries would have gone pro. I signed up for clubs in the early days and couldnt get a game even though I was better than the others around me. Chairman's son always played etc

Took my eldest to a club and his experience on day one meant he never played again.

    Good advice, thanks.

I've heard good things about one of our local clubs, maybe I'll take him up one day just to get a vibe of the place.

Also see if they do things like quick cricket etc as an activity anywhere near you. These are youth work run projects and less daunting and more fun for a newbie. You don't need to know how to hold a bat to have a bit of fun here and so its less pressure

My son went to a local club when he was about 6. It was **** but we did a couple of seasons. It was **** because it was run by well intentioned but clueless dads.

He joined another local club last season and it's very good. It's very good because the club employs professional coaches. The membership fees are twice as expensive as other clubs but you get what you pay for and I think the extra £60 per child per season is a good investment in Stan Jr and Stanette, particularly when I see the "quality" of some of the not properly coached opposition!

How convenient Sky that you're at work... <whistle>

I'm at my Mums house with nipper having a roast. Will probably be on a train when the games start.

Suit shopping today (and tomorrow if necessary) for a wedding... I fancy a 3 piece grey check, but not in a Connor McGregor way.

Finding that many suits are coming with trousers that don't reach the bottom of my legs, I've been assured it's a trend and I have not had a growth spurt.

I don't want half-mast trousers, I'm not a hipster, I have bacon in my sandwiches, not beetroot pate, I have my beer out of a pint glass not an upcycled trumpet.

Sat in the garden in my pants. I'd like an ice cold beer but drank them yesterday.

Can't be bothered to walk to shop. That said I do have some spiced rum and ginger ale.

Getting a few funny looks from the neighbours. Should probably sit in my own garden.
