I'm off to town, going to get all three kits with Hooper #9 on them. My faith has been restored with this monumental signing.

Good to see that we are still brining in youth players whilst focusing on signing senior talent as well :)

That's honestly one of the stupidest things I've ever read. You do realise that Sevenoaks FC play in the Kent league right? Yes, that's a league for amateur and semi-pro teams in KENT. It's the feeder club to the Ryman League, which is the feeder club to the Blue Square South league. Sevenoaks are playing so far down the English league pyramid it's unreal. I don't think their stadium even has any seats.

Obertan could 'only' manage a few starts and sub apps in one of the best clubs in the entire world. And saying he's peaked at 22 is just bullshit. It's impossible to tell.

Hooper might be a star talent at Sevenoaks, but at such a low level, and with such unproven potential at the top levels, even £100k would be a HUGE sum of money. It could be significantly less, but still a major coup for Sevenoaks FC.

If I signed for a Premier League club then I'd want my bloody name on SSN!

Even the best players start somewhere, so he could end up becoming one of the best strikers in the UK for all we know. I'm not disputing that.

However, at the level he's at, we're talking thousands to sign this guy. There is no way that Newcastle would pay, and there's no way that Sevenoaks would ask, for millions for a 17 year old kid who has only been tested in the mostly amateur Kent League. If he was proven at Championship level, League 1 or even League 2, then perhaps more, but at the moment, he's a very, very long way from the top.

For the prices going, it's well worth a gamble.

As a good comparison, look at Sunderland. They spent £350,000 for James McClean, who is a highly rated winger for Derry FC, which is a fully-pro team in the top tier in the Republic of Ireland football system. He's even had himself an international cap for the ROI.

And some people think we'll sign Hooper, a 17 year old from a mostly amateur league in Kent, for £2-3million? What are some people on man seriously.

I would be surprised if it was even into the tens of thousands.

More than likely a small fee up front in the region of £50k as well as a clause in the contract with a percentage of sell on fee plus increments based on number of performances at first team level and international caps.

It was £1 million up front, potentially rising to £1.5 million.

Spot on I reckon. Sell-on percentages in the contract work really well for the big buyer and the small seller. Hopefully Sevenoaks have one in, because they do deserve a little more if this guy ends up becoming a good EPL talent.

Mind you, these mad figures did come from the guy who said this:

And genuinely thinks that a 17 year old from the Kent League will be on the first-team bench against Sunderland ahead of Best and Sammy Ameobi without even playing one game for us. <doh><doh><doh>

Either many people's [item below]s are broken, or there's some major 'buzzkilling' going on here.
