But we were playing one of the worst teams, on form, in the league. They had as little to play for as we did. Not that bad, when this is an entertainment business, is a pretty weak compliment.

Such a shame. The first 30 minutes was fantastic, but then it was a slow-grind until the end. Almost glad the Referee called the game 30 seconds early.

 

Crouchie is a good lad.

 

We have actually finished 8th after a strange season, scoring goals is overrated.

 

These games happen - but five home games on the trot? I'm not so sure about that.

Have we just finished 8th by accident? We seemed to try our hardest not to.

 

There's a lot of irony in us finishing in our highest possible league position by losing & not scoring.

And for those of you who wanted a Puel song today, you got your wish!

 

We could've easily scored 5 goals today. I know how tedious football under Puel can be at times, but I don't think today that was the case.

 

I have a feeling that game may have been a death knell for Claude..........sorry but that was a bit pathetic. Yes their goalkeeper played a blinder but that is exactly what they are paid to do. No excuses Saints that was very poor.

Some of our fans are so ungrateful. That trip to Wembley in February was one of the best days out I've had as a Saints fan. Puel has ****ed up a number of times, but he's also got it spot on a number of times. They even each other out. 46 points is not a great total and our home form was bad this season (which is going to cost him his job). So I'm not unhappy about his upcoming dismissal but I'm very unhappy about the lack of respect he has been shown.

We were always going to be offensively-challenged this year. Especially with Austin hurt. We splashed the big bucks on Boufal as the answer, and he's been disappointing.

8th place is a decent finish. We were kind of an average-y team, and Puel did an average-y coaching job. No one was super-horrible, but there's not much in the way of class, either. The job this off-season is to 1) Hang on to our players and avoid to much tumult, and 2) Identify 2-3 positions where we can find an upgrade. Doesn't matter too much where. Manager might well be one area, but I don't expect a new guy will suddenly make us title competitors, either. Just go from "good" to "very good" in two positions and we can maybe sneak into Euros. That's a suitable goal.

 

Agree with every word Tom. And at the end of the day, the players bear a lot of responsibility too, and some of the effort has been lacking in the last few weeks. I would like Claude to have got another chance but a large section of self-entitled fans who don't understand that football isn't a computer game would make every home game next season a misery.

 

Play 2 strikers, and you get my vote Beefy.

 

First half excellent, good attacking play. 2nd half miserable struggle, had couple chances. Said at half time they could smash and grab, take the points. And they did.

I've been very patient with puel but no goals at home in 5 games is a real problem. I don't think he is right for us and believe we should explore our opinions.

 

So... did we win 0-0?



In seriousness thanks to Claude. Thought the board stitched you right up in both windows, espescially the Summer and been unlucky with injuries too.

Not been fully convinced myself but certainly felt you needed another season.

Not to be I guess, just hope we don't spend half the Summer ****ing around... huge Summer coming up.
