Should we be playing our first 11, the reserves or a mixture of the 2?

Also should we treat the FA cup differently to the League cup?

Personally I think we should go for it in all competitions. I don't think we should be exclusively thinking about Premiership survival and see the cups and a distraction from that.

Depending on how congested the fixtures are around the matches, I'd go for a spine of first team players, with some fringe and youth, then bring in more first team players as required.

Play some fringe players, such as Gosling, Willo and Best, but not a total reserve team. Perhaps something like this:

    ----------------Krul-----------------
    Raylor---Saylor--Willo--Ferguson
    Obertan--Gosling--Barton--Jonas/Marveaux (whichever doesn't start normally)
    ---------Best----New Striker------

Yeah maybe 1 or 2 senior players, another 1 or 2 on the bench just in case.

e.g. Colo and Guti with Ba and Obertan on the bench

    Depends how the draw goes.

If we get Man Utd etc in the Carling Cup then put out a strong side to try and progress. If it's a League 1/2 side then a strong spine to the squad with fringe players making up the numbers.

Take the FA Cup seriously though (unlike last season).

    League is priority though.

The thing is we actually played a quite strong side vs Stevenage.. I can't remember exactly but it had Krul, Willo, Colo Barton, Nolan, Routledge etc.
He played Barton out left so obviously didn't take it too seriously and thought the players would do well enough on their own but still..

    This. A nice mixture.

For Scunthorpe in particular though I wouldnt use too many first teamers (no disrespect).

I personally would look to blend some youth players in with experienced players, with first choice guys on the bench should we need the cavalry. The likes of Abied, Vuckic, Ferguson, Kadar if fit etc, alongside the likes of Harper, Willo, Best, maybe even Raylor, etc etc.

That was stupid though. They had played 3 days ago and a younger side would have played on pitches like that all the time and been fully fit and keen to impress. If we'd put the reserves out we would have won that game IMO.

This, though I wouldn't be playing first team players at home to someone like Morecambe for instance.

Depends who we play, a big club more 1st team, smaller more reserve team.

I say treat the FA Cup with respect, keep a core of first teamers but use fringe players (scaled to our opposition of course).

I'd like to see us 'do an Arsenal' and try to stick to the same team in the League Cup that starts (assuming we go on a run), reward the young lads by letting them play every game not dropping them as soon as it gets tough. We need to show the kids that they WILL get their chances if they put the hard work in.

Mainly first team with a few fringe players but with rested players still on bench.
I have supported this lot all my life (50 now) and still waiting for a trophy to go with the fairs cup.
Sick of this concentrate on the league garbage. Would love a trophy and remember it for ever, frankly seen us relegated before and whilst would hate us to go down could live with it for a trophy. The relegation would soon be forgotten when we got promoted again hopefully soon and hopefully as champions (good days), would never forget winning a major trophy.
Time we started going for the trophies, lets face it we wont win the league for a long time. My dad wasnt even born last time we did.
Hopefully the first teamers produce more than the pathetic embarrasment at Stevenage last year though.

    Mixture

    Depending on who is fit

    -—-------------forster-----------------
    Tavernier----colo----saylor----fergie
    Obertan---barton---gosling----marveaux
    -------------vuckic--------------------
    ---------------------best---------------

If we play kadar/willi in the centre swap the fullback on that side for the first teamer in the position and same applies with midfield if we play another reserve.
