David Moyes is on the brink of quitting Sunderland after losing dressing room and fans' trust

Only concerns about his compensation package have kept Moyes from quitting now but many staff at the club believe he could be

The former Manchester United boss has lost the Sunderland fans, lost the dressing room and lost hope of rebuilding his relegated squad after he warned he will not receive any of the £45million parachute back-up funds.

The under-fire Scot has become increasingly disillusioned with life on Wearside and last weekend’s final home Premier League game has taken him to breaking point. Moyes, who has led the North East club to relegation after their ten years in the top flight, refused to take part in a lap of appreciation at the Stadium of Light because he feared a backlash from unhappy supporters.

Sunderland face a daunting trip to champions Chelsea’s title party at Stamford Bridge on Sunday where they will be without 11 players.

Unrest among the Sunderland faithful has gathered pace throughout the season as the Black Cats have failed to beat the drop and Moyes has taken most of the flak, despite failing to get the financial backing from owner Ellis Short.

Only concerns about his compensation package have kept Moyes from quitting now but many staff at the club believe he could be gone by the end of this week.

Short, who is still desperate to sell the club, has so far persuaded Moyes to stay on for next season and he is hoping the close relationship the former Everton and Manchester United boss has built with chief executive Martin Bain will reap dividends.

Short has paid off six managers in as many years and is unwilling to fork out more compensation, particularly for the man who took his club down. He is due to meet Moyes for further talks this week as Sunderland plan for the Championship.

The Sunderland squad faces a major overhaul this summer and there will be a battle to keep keeper Jordan Pickford at the club. Moyes has slapped a £30million fee on the former England Under 21 keeper.

Asked if he would walk away if Short didn’t give him what he wanted, Moyes said: “No, I want to hear what he is going to say first.

“There’s not just one plan to go back up, there are a couple of different levels of plans. The quick way to do it would be look at Newcastle, but there are other examples.

“Maybe a lot of the parachute money could already be getting used up for other stuff. It might not necessarily be that you’ve got that to go on recruitment."

Sounds like it's going to play out like I thought. If folk thought it was bad being **** in the Premier League just wait till next season. Still, the debt won't pay itself. Optimum year to address it really.

More concerned about his pay off for failure than a rebuild as it reads, talk about players diving how about managers .

Its pure speculation imo., but no sleep would be lost at the thought of Dave walking, but I doubt he will, he may be the wrong manager for us, but he ain't no fool.

Getting our hopes us. It's in a few of the papers.

I'm hoping they just come to an agreement with him and he goes by mutual consent.

He'll come out with every excuse under the sun as to how none of this is his fault and he'd have succeeded if he'd had the backing he was promised blah blah blah.

**** off Moyes, you won't be missed

If Moyes leaves it will probably be the end of his managerial career.

I don't think any other premier league team would touch him.
I doubt any championship team would want him.
He probably thinks he's too good for anything lower.

    Maybe somewhere in Scotland.

The only chance he has is by making a success of us.
This could be a good thing but I don't really know what will happen.
If he keeps on the same way as this last season he's finished but if he learns from it, changes his approach and methods, he may be able to resurrect his failing career.

After that 5-1 cave in I hope so. It tells me they don't want Moyes as manager.

Ill be shocked if moyes just walks away.

The bloke needs to go and if he doesn't then crowd size next season will be low as it has every been .
