I would put that down more to Long and Redmond's shooting ability than managers tactics. If halve their chances had gone in it would be a significant amount of goals i reckon.

Unaccustomed though I am to lengthy research I felt I needed to investigate further and now my brain hurts ... :emoticon-0126-nerd: ... However ...

The magical 4 started and played for the the initial 58 minutes of a recent match. Can you guess which one?

    HULL

So why didn't we score a hatful then? Well in my humble opinion because we couldn't get the bloody ball
Nathan played his best game for us at left-back, Sofi learnt how to tackle and defend, Dusan wandered lonely as a cloud in his favourite No 10 position and Gabi asked someone in the Executive boxes if he could borrow a pair of binos to see if the game was still going on

My conclusions are that we are rarely if ever better when Sofi comes on for JWP, Dusan is best wide as he slows everything down in the middle
I don't think we can currently have more than 2 of the Nath Dusan Sofi combination on at any one time and I'd like to see Dusan on the bench to replace Nath or Sofi later if needed

Mrs S <diva>says 4-1 Saints and she's putting her money where her mouth is :emoticon-0164-cash:

So because it didn't look good for 58 minutes let's not try it ever again and let's rather stick to the lineup that hasn't looked good for thousand and more minutes?

You suggested we couldn't win without them all on the pitch. We have recently v Boro WBrom Palace Watford Sunderland

and with them all on the pitch we didn't get enough of the ball and they ended up defending (or lost in the case of Dusan) and that was v (the now relegated) Hull

I just don't see logically how you can be succesful v any Premiership team with that many attacking players who aren't also aggressive without the ball, you need someone who can win the ball AND score goals and that's what we need next season

BUT let's not fall out over it, because its a difference of opinion and if it happens tomorrow and works then I will happily eat humble pie ... but it won't :emoticon-0105-wink:

And by recently you mean in the span of four months. :D (also, all team bar WBA from bottom half of the table, including two relegated sides)

I don't think 58 minutes can be enough of a sample to say conclusively that it doesn't work. I'm not saying it will work, only that we give it another try.

Got my ticket for this one, hopefully its a sell out. The fact there are complaints about a season in which we got another top 8 finish (hopefully), reached a cup final and had European football shows how far we have come as a club. It hasn't been the most entertaining season I'll admit but hopefully the boys end the season on a high tomorrow!!

So you are the manager and you are forced to play your 3rd and 4th choice centre backs in a tight and highly competitive league and at the same time as your strikers are struggling to score. You would be a fool to put on more strikers, weaken your midfield and expose your vulnerable defence. Puel has followed the sensible path and had he listened to the advice of some on here we would not have so many scoreless draws we would have been hammered out of sight most games.

The sun is setting on another season.

Accountants rub their hands from final placing payouts.

Players hang their boots and devote time to their loved ones.

Groundsmen and staff pack away equipment ready for another eagerly waited season.

St Mary's will shut her turnstiles, relax in a deep sleep until awakened by the chorus of OWTS in August.

Fans will look back, look forward, hang off every bit of news over a long hot summer.

But more importantly, who's going to the pub tomorrow?

Guide Dog, I guess; now the pub of choice. Not sure if you've been before: https://goo.gl/maps/A13ChBumZjq

It's about five minutes further away from the ground than the Old Farmhouse.

<laugh> The 7th circle of hell; lost souls wandering round Ikea for eternity. I'd sooner go to Fratton Park.

Every team needs one or two special players in attack to rise above the average, we haven't had one this year (with Mane leaving). Our defence has been as good as anyones. I think this season has proved centre backs are not that important! :) Our defence has actually improved since Maya and Jack took over from our superstar centre backs!
