FA has brought in a new rule for a panel to review incidents where players have dived. Retrospective bans will be implemented. Haven't had a chance to read the article fully yet, will give this some detailed thought later. http://m.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/39962886
****ing stupid idea. Should just use video footage as they do with all other major sports and make the call there and then. If a player is deemed to have dived, he gets a yellow card. Having committees sitting their watching games after the fact is stupid. If a player wins a penalty through diving and his team win as a result of that, then what consolation do the losing team get by that player getting a retrospective ban? They still lost the game, and the cheater (and his team) still prospered due to cheating! Why they insist on resisting video evidence is ****ing beyond me!
That's good if they are. But this panel committee thing.....how is it any different from what they have now?
Because now they can't retrospectively ban anyone for diving. It's a small step forward, but a step forward all the same. At the moment divers get away with it scott free, if this comes in there will be a punishment. A 3 game ban (no idea if that is the mooted punishment) is no small thing if you are fighting for your place and/or have to forego bonuses.
I see. Just seems like a half arsed fix to me. And like I said, a retrospective ban does nothing to compensate the team who lost due to cheating. They say cheaters never prosper.....but if you are in a FA cup final and you dive to win a pen and therefore win the cup, you wont give two ****s about no retrospective ban, and the losers get denied a cup they should not have lost. Just doesn't seem right to me.
Like Bod I'd like to see a video panel make decisions (or certainly giving the ref their findings to allow him to make the decision) during the game. But this is a step in the right direction at least. Deli Alli must be ****ting himself
Even if it was just for contentious incidents in the 18 yard box, for penalty awards. How many of those are there per game? 2? 3? Not many, it wouldn't slow down the game that much.
I think we all agree it is not perfect, but better than nothing. What they need is to consider technology in full and plan it's full introduction in a way that minimises disruption to the game, but gives a fair result.
Agreed, Like i said, having it JUST for incidents in the 18 yard box would be good enough for me. For free kicks, keep it as normal. But for contentious pens, they should use video.
A face value looks a great idea. Nobody wants to see it and it will encourage the teams like United and Chelsea to stop their players diving.
First I would like video replays , if that doesn't happen I'm all in on bans for diving . Also , something must be done with the clutching and grabbing in the box from corners and set pieces ... it's starting to be an absolute joke .
Agree. You'll often see an attacking player pulled up for a foul on a defender or GK, but rarely a pen given for a foul the other way.
I think a one match ban is plenty to be honest. If you headbutt another player you'll probably only get a 3 match ban. If every game is monitored and strictly enforced, increasing the ban to Draconian levels won't be necessary. Studies show that the chance of being caught is the main deterrent to crimes, not the harshness of punishment.
More than a game must be for dangerous play , but along with a one game ban for diving I would also insert a big fine for the player and a bigger one for his team .
The ultimate sanction would be docking points. Maybe too harsh for one offence, but I would introduce it for a certain number of offences, would cut out the serial divers like Ali and Young in an instant.
A sliding scale fine equal to "X" weeks of earnings. Someone earning £120k per week should get a proportionately larger fine than a player earning £20k per week.
