I said this in another thread but I think it's worth highlighting for those who might miss it:

Let's say these strongest transfer rumours become true:

In:

Pieters: £7mill
Maiga: £8mill
Cabaye: £5.5mill
Obertan: £3mill
Ben Arfa: £5mill?
Signing on/agent fees for Ba, Marveaux and Abeid: AT LEAST £2mill

Total: £30.5mill this year

Out:

Carroll: £35mill
Enrique: £6mill
Nolan: £4.5mill
Routledge: £2mill

In: £47.5mill this year

Given the only high earners to leave were Enrique and Nolan, the wages will have almost certainly went up with 4 extra players, including Ba, Ben Arfa and Cabaye who certainly won't be on low sums.

That leaves a gross profit of £17mill in 2011, undoubtedly less than that with the higher wage expenditure. I'd also expect us to spend a little more in the January transfer window to bolster the squad mid-season.

Over £30million spend, who would have expected that?

Cabye was 4.3mill.

And singing fees etc for Ba and Marveaux were a lot more than 2mill.

Other than that, your numbers look good.

Signing on fees are ridiculous, I'd be surprised if we spent less than 5m combined in todays market with agents.

Wasn't Carroll on about £40k? Got a payrise then wanted another a few months later...

If we take into account the likely higher fees for Ba, Marveaux and Abeid, as as well as the agent fees for the other players, we've probably hit the £35mill mark in all of the costs combined.

If that's the case, then as promised, we HAVE spent all of the Carroll money this year.

Your forgetting Sol Campbell left as well on £40k a week.

£30 mil spent, you wud have thought that? According to you £47 million sold. In my world, call it simplistic, but thats £17mil made. just saying

Technically, we never said the Nolan or Enrique money would be re invested, only Carroll's.

Wasn't Ben Arfa £5.5mil + the initial loan fee (around £2m from what I remember)?

In terms of transfers, provided at least a LB comes in, Ashley's done pretty well for the club these past couple seasons. Maybe he deserves some more credit than he gets from most of the fans.

This! I get sick of people coming on here saying but we sold Nolan & Enrique too...when did they say that money would be re invested? We've made a profit and if those two signings come off we've strengthened our team! I'm sure people would be happy if we'd spent £50m on absolute crap

Carroll £35k, Nolan £50k, Enrique £40k, Campbell £40k, Routledge £20k = £185k a week.

Cabaye £40k?, Ben Arfa £40k?, Ba £30k?, Marveaux £25k?, Abeid £5k?, Obertan £30k? = £170k a week?

With hopefully 2 more signings to come....

You have to remember they are coming from the French Ligue. There wages are not like ours in the Prem. These players would have been on half of what I am quoting there. Ive basically doubled it. Ba has been reported with some clout that he is on £30k a week, read it somewhere. He was willing to take a cut on his West Ham deal to play in the Prem.

To be honest you'd be sensible to assume given the size of our squad that any players sold would be replaced. I think the whole 35m and money generated from sales just needs to be forgotten. It is correct to think that our wage bill has gone down and we've made a profit in transfers. Given this was the intention I don't see what the problem is? Yes they did put out the misleading stories about the 35m but to be honest its old hat now (had to get a hat in). Pardew has been quite clear more recently that we are a selling club and costs needs to come down, debts reduced. We can either moan about it or get on. I do moan from time to time as people are sold but that is just looking at things from a footballing perspective, not a business one. It would be lovely to be awash with money and retained the likes of Nolan/Carroll/Enrique while adding the new players. Of course we'd be a better team and be more sure about how the season would go. But we're not cash rich and he wants his money back so we have to sell to buy.

Im a bit bored of it all as well. But to be clear, the very simplistic view is this:

Last year: Income £100m, Operating costs £20/25m, Wages £60m = Profit £15/£20m. This doesnt include transfers in or out. Just need to look at the info in and around the internet to come to this estimation of last year.

Why are we giving Ashley credit for two signings that haven't happened yet? I know these transfers sound probable but I think we should judge him on the 1st pf September, no earlier.

If we do sign a LB and a striker I will be satisfied, if we signed 3 players I would be happy.

Cabaye was £4.5m and the Pieters deal is rumoured to be €6m and Maiga €7m, I don't know the exact exchange rates but can confidently say that you're way off <ok> Also you've missed off Campbell so there's another £25k off the wage bill.
