Given how it's apparently a legal requirement for football stadiums to have a statue of former players outside, I wonder if that's something we're considering for WHL2...and what're the odds everyone would demand a statue of the moment where Dave Mackay made Billy Bremner wish he wasn't wearing white shorts?

  8. You know what, I'm going to trust in Walks and take that at face value. He's always been a fans player and I don't see him turning into a twat.
    Nice tribute, Kyle!! <cheers>

I cheered Pat Jennings out in 1970 and Erik the Viking out in 1992. For 22 years I stood under the shelf. My greatest memory was Graham Roberts scoring against Anderlecht and the subsequent penalty shoot out with Tony Parks saving from I can't remember who. Brilliant.

Arnór took the final penalty of the 1984 UEFA Cup Final shootout which was saved by Tottenham's Tony Parks.

Went on Sunday and feel very lucky and honoured to have been able to take my 14 yr old who has been going for 11 yrs. My 19 year old has been going for 13 yrs and I have been going since 1981 but dreamed of going since I was 8 or 9 back in the mid 1970s.
It has been fascinating reading people's experiences on this thread.
Have been thinking back a lot about the Lane and why it meant so much to me.
The things I wrote in OP are a big part but I also think that as a kid being a spur made me feel like I belonged to something.
My cousins (not interested in football) lived in Turnpike Lane and all their neighbours seemed to be spurs so it began.
My moron of a mother married a child beating piece of ****e so home was not a bundle of laughs.
I followed every spurs match on the radio and tv (when they gave me a beat up black and whit portable to stop me polluting his front room). I was awe struck by the crowds and the sights of White Hart Lane on the big match and match of the day. Up until I was 12 I would re enact famous spurs wins with my busted up subbuteo set (busted goal, a keeper and 4 or 5 players)

My cousin's boyfriend took me to the semi final replay in 81. Although I had been to other matches at Charlton and Palace nothing prepared me for that night.
From then on I saved my dinner money so I could go to spurs and a mate and me started going in the 81-82 season and we stood on the shelf. Saw some massive games and some smaller ones but from when I left Thamesmead at 10am to when I walked through the door at 9pm I belonged to something that was exciting and joyous.
It got me through some bleak times and always gave me something to smile about.

Only Mrs RCL and my kids have always been there like spurs were for me as a kid and make me feel at home like WHL did for me.
I love my life...Mrs RCL, 2 great daughters, some great mates, an insane job and spurs.
What more can a miserable bastard ask for <laugh>

I hope I ain't dragged the thread down but can't share with Mrs RCL as her beloved Wednesday just lost the play off semi final so she is in mourning and you lot are stuck with my morose memories.

By the way...am I the only one who found it fitting that the last record played and last song sung by fans at the lane was "Can't smile without you " ?
