After disappearing from Ligue 1 word is the Maiga is in Newcastle right now negotiating a contract.
Here is a report from L'equipe explaining that Maiga hasn't turned up for training this past week and missed Sauchaux's last game at Bonal.

    http://www.lequipe.fr/Football/breves2011/20110814_175543_maiga-seche-le-decrassage.html

He is a great player having scored 15 goals last season, he's young quick and has a great eye for goal so I think he'd be a great buy.
Better signing than Erdinc in my opinion.
The only negative remark about Maiga is one made by his old cauch Gillot who is now Bordeaux manager, who said that he is a player "who likes his money".

And Lyon have announced that they have received a bid for Cissokho from Newcastle.
He is also a brilliant player, one of the best defenders in the league.
Although no price has been agreed yet, not sure what this means is going on with Pieters though.

L'Équipe is just as reliable as SSN and Fott01 is only one of many reports on Cissokho.

I'd prefer Cissoko over Pieters, as I'm sure many of us would.. but I still can't see it happening to be honest =/

I have a feeling we will get both, Maiga seems a cert IMO. I think we will be forced to go for Cissoko due to this **** on with Pieters in time for the derby.

I'm sorry, what?! not only are we bidding a more than 5 million for a player, we're now pondering over which left back we want!

Lyon are very reliable on Cissokho that's the only problem, he's their best defender so I don't think they would particularly like to see him go.
BUT we have a brilliant reputation in France, and with the amount of French players arriving at the club this could turn out to be very likely indeed.

In my opinion Maiga does seem a cert too, he doesn't want to stay at his club and Sauchaux can't really do anything about that.

Cissokho has looked excellent whenever I've seen him. No offence but I'm not sure why he'd want to join you guys, have Lyon signed someone else to replace him?

In Maiga's quotes he does mention how good the money is for him, and the fee for the club... But regardless, most footballers play for the money, and good to see positive noises being made.

Because there's no other big club looking to buy a LB? Besides, where better to carry on speaking French than on the Newcastle United training ground

Let's be honest, players don't leave other European leagues to come to England for the weather...Money always has to do with it, and it'd be naive to single him out for it.

Lyon have signed John Mensah from Sunderland and Bakary Koné of Guimgamp, who are both central defenders.
Koné can play left-back too and is 23 so maybe he was braught in to replace Cissokho.
Thinking about it though Lyon don't have many defenders really, they only have Cris as another major defender.

Our reputation in France is sky high at the moment for several reasons, and he'd get to play in the PL with us.

Cissokho would be a brilliant signing, I'd be over the moon with him or Pieters.

It's skimwords I think. Basically a snippet of code that looks at keywords on the page and links to the website. It's a way of monetising the forum to pay for server costs.
