Sunderland wasn't a city until recently. So the different cities is out the window. It was a town. Many Derbies have teams that are in the same city but are different towns. When Sunderland were not playing us, even Leeds and Boro were classed as derbies for us. It is a perception, a feeling of rivalry that creates a derby, geographical proximity is subjective. You could just say arch enemies.

What game were you watching? Sessegnon was one of the best players hes very tricky and skillful, everything seems to go through him and we need to keep him out of the game on Saturday.

  3. It's a ****ing derby game ffs. Sunderland's population is around 180k and Newcastle's is around 150k. Birmingham's population is around 1 million and there are 4 major clubs there, which means each club should get bigger attendances then ours on average, but they don't.

The Geordie and Mackem rivalry goes back in history to the 1700's when the geordies supported Charles the 1st and the Mackems supported Oliver Cromwell, and both cities developed hatred of each other. This got carried forward in generations and is now taken out on the pitch.

Our rivalry has more history than any of the other rivalries in football today. We want to beat each other because it's in our blood and has been for around 300 years, the other clubs hate each other simply because they are close together.

Maybe he has been taken over by a higher being?

I was thinking along the same lines myself, and have come to the conclusion that it is merely the calm which precedes a storm...It will only take a slight change in the 'atmospheric' conditions for the storm to kick into place...<laugh>
