Bad timing on the release date of the Labour Manifesto. Comes out on the same day as the inflation figures. This means the bad news that peoples earnings are not keeping up with inflation will be buried by the usual suspects tomorrow in favour of the expected comments about the Manifesto. The "big lie" required to stop the majority realising that there is another way is of course to convince them that there is no other way. In that "the establishment" has been very successful. The current situation can only continue if people continually vote for what is not good for them, and there seems to be no sign that that will not be the case this time.
Wouldn't a more logical and/or rational response have been to say that he would not address these false allegations and yadda yadda yadda - rather than outright confirm them?

It depends on how you look at it. He may have suspected that there's some evidence that it was true, so he decided to say that he's allowed to do it, so there's no issue. The President can declassify whatever he wants, so it's one way to get around that accusation. Alternatively he may just not have thought about it at all and done something rash and impulsive. I'll let you decide which one I believe is more likely to be true.
Minor point, but don't think that can be done retrospectively. I'm sure that he will be able to produce the documented declassification undertaken prior to meeting with the Russians. No, you don't think so??
I don't think he has to do it officially. If he says something publicly, then it's declassified. Sounds a bit odd, but apparently that's how it works. The main point with this information though is that it's damaging to a US ally, something that he either didn't know or didn't care about. It's specific enough that the Russians or their allies in the region (Syria, Iran) can trace it back to the source. He's basically getting people in key intelligence positions killed and ruining international covert cooperation. Who's going to risk giving the US a heads up, if it gets their own people outed?
Ivana said that Trump raped her in the initial draft of her 1993 autobiography, only to later recant it under deposition in a move that didn't in any way look as if she had been paid off. This is why his lawyer making that statement is the exact wrong thing to say: if you want allegations to go away, the one thing you don't want is someone who puts the allegations front and centre - and if that person happens to be your lawyer, they'd have to come up with some pretty good reasons for them not to be fired. Out of a cannon. Into the sun.
The lack of awareness of intelligence management and source protection is frightening, but hardly unexpected. In Dumpf world, individuals don't feature as important - and certainly if that individual is a faceless Syrian or Iranian. The effect of course will be to undermine the efforts of generating sources in the region and likely act as a recruitment boost to Isis. But apart from that I'm sure it was worth it to Dumpf. After all, just imagine the bragging rights he would have gained!!
