That's ok, I just happened to have spent 5 years reading the same comments about Davis and I disagree with those views.
To be fair though, there will be a time when all players begun their decline. Maybe this has happened with Davis, but unless he would fetch £10-15m, id leave him with the team where he just has a slighter lesser role, due to his abilities being on the wain...
Agreed, with a really big IF his abilities are on the wain. I'm waiting for him to be on the wain so that at least those who have spent 5 years saying he's not good enough can say "I told you so" Every season people say he'd be worth a fortune if he scored 10 goals a season, so he must be pretty good, just missing the goals. Lots of fans just don't "get" the contribution he gives.
To be fair Davis has done more than most to earn his starting place in most games. In truth he is just a steady honest player. He will be missed unless they can replace him with someone of equal status or better. That is going to be hard to find.......
I often 'like' stuff regarding ex colleagues who have done well in new positions. It doesn't mean I want to follow them, just i'm pleased they're doing well. If anyone is melting down over that, then really they need to have a word with themselves!
I'd be surprised if that was really the case. I'm very anti-Davis (as a starting XI player - I have no issue with him as a squad player), but that's certainly not been for five years. I had no issue with him in the first two years. We were just back in PL. We didn't him aspirations of suddenly challenging the big six. Davis was absolutely fine for those two years. Even today, in his 30s, I have said that he would be a great signing for half the league. But Poch left us in a position to take the next step. Three years on, it is my view that we are still waiting to take that step. A couple of years finishing slightly higher, now a year finishing slightly lower; but overall, pretty much on the same level. We need to have fewer Fonte's, Long's and Davis' starting, and more Virgil's, Romeu's and Gabbi's, in my view. As for your subsequent post, I very much understand what Davis brings to us, thank you. But I also understand what he does not bring to us. I am not going to apologise for wanting us to improve on that. I do sympathise with the club. Spending these entire three years replacing players who have left is hard enough, let alone replacing ones who are still here. That's why I made the comment about driving him to Newcastle; it might be the only way that we do get the necessary upgrade on him (after three years of me waiting). In an ideal world, I would rather than he stayed on as a squad player. Same with Fonte - I'd rather he was still here as a squad player, but as he has moved on, hopefully we sign a CB this summer of better quality than him.
That's you Brendy, fine, but Davis has been criticised and described as not good enough time and time again. Time and time again he's shown me that when we play well, he is a key cog. You seem to have assumed that I think he should start every single game. When I discuss a player, I am never thinking about an 11, always an 18. I'd love an upgrade on every player, but life doesn't always bring that and I'll reiterate my point again - Davis has warranted unnecessary criticism continually, despite (in my opinion) him being a key contributor to our play.
http://www.yenibakisgazetesi.com/amp/haber/ingiliz-southampton-besiktasli-cenk-tosun-u-istiyor-21441 Saints want Tosun from Besiktas. Very prolific this season.
You've obviously missed my post where I said that I argued the importance of Davis to the team for years. Now I feel his importance to the team has diminished and it's time for new players.
Quite frankly Davis is the player that is seen but not heard..........If the team setup is right he in my opinion he can have a blinder. For me when they ask him to play a more defensive roll I not sure he always gets it right simply because it is not his natural game. He does have a lot of experience and is a consistent international. I don't think anyone can take that away from him so it surprises me to hear such negativity surround Davis on here.
VVD has liked Wijnaldums tweet about almost being there for Champions League qualification. Really hope it's only because he's Dutch? Any where but Liverpool Virg.
And todays player that leaving in the summer is..........Jack Stephens according to the Telegraph So who is going to be left? Forster, Pied, Maya, Davis, JWP, Boufal, Redmand & Gabby from my recollections but sure someone will snap up these guys soon LOL
