Last season was a freak season and this season Chelsea showed what they're truly capable of when they play for a manager they like.
They weren't really challenged though IMO. In fact am surprised they took so long A fully firing City and its top 2 sorted What I said about you guys and Wembley is based on your style of play. The bigger pitch simply doesn't suit your game
We apparently have permission to change the size of the pitch - and I sincerely hope we do so as you're quite right. Our players have the engines but lack the pace to cover the extra ground.
Didn't know that tbh I based it on your performances there in the cup games and discussions around that time
I think most Spurs fans tend to agree with your first point. Whatever drama the media tried to make of it, fact of the matter is we weren't really 'in' the title race last year, and neither were we this year. However, I'd argue that we're currently in the best position of all the usual suspects (Chelsea aside) as we are the only team whose starting XI is basically impossible to improve on without breaking numerous transfer records. Most Chelsea fans I know agree with this. Where they've pipped us this season has been in their squad depth and ability to play more or less the same team week in week out due to no European football. Next season will be an entirely different ball game for them. Liverpool and City are still 3-4 first team players minimum away from being serious title contenders. Pool need a new GK, CB, LB and DM. And another ST while we're at it. City need almost an entirely new back line plus a GK. I don't think Pool quite have the money to bring in players of sufficient quality to plug that gap at the same time as keeping them competitive in Europe (a challenge they haven't had this year). City certainly have the resources but does Pep know how to use them? His handling of the Hart/Bravo situation and shelling out £50m on a defender who might be good in 2 years' time indicate that - as was the case at Barca and Bayern - he relies on simply overwhelming the opposition in attack; a tactic that works far less in the faster, more physical English game. As for yourselves, I'm not going to go off on a wum here but your manager knows the league inside-out and has invested the GDP of a small country in your squad. I personally see you as the biggest threat next season: Arsenal have been in decline for donkey's years, Pool lack the resources to properly compete and Pep is stabbing in the dark. If Mourinho would just take the brakes off, stop relying on Ibra and Fellaini and just let the likes of Martial, Rashford, Pogba, Mikey etc. play the game in the same gung-ho style as SAF made sacred to United, I think you'd be so much better than your results show. Mourinho's bizarre paranoia is holding you back.
It's holding us back so far that we could end up with a Domestic trophy, a European trophy and a CL group qualification this season. I expect him to buy another CB, a proper holding midfielder and a striking replacement for Rooney (maybe Griezmann) in the summer, then he will feel he can let them off the leash.
I guess I just have higher aspirations for your club than you do. EDIT: You sure you want to play this game again?
I really would like us to win two trophies and qualify for CL every season, unfortunately we didn't do that very often even under Fergie. Still, nice to know you have such high expectations of us
It's a bit of a moot point though as Fergie never competed in the Europa, nor for that matter were the winners of that tournament rewarded with a CL place when he was manager. And he threw the towel in on the league cup precisely so that he could focus on bigger prizes. And even then you managed to win it semi-regularly. Such as in 2009 against a team we won't mention .
Awwwww, it's wonderful that you care. I knew we were right to keep the fence just high enough to peek over And there was me thinking it was only @Hoddle Is A God who was concerned about us
I guess it's just due to the abundance of United fans in London. By contrast, I haven't a clue what's going on at City or Liverpool
Agreed. It is your manager who has held you back this season. We saw shades of the United of old against Chelsea - where has that team been all year?
Spurs have a very solid, loyal fan base, however, in modern commercial terms it is a small one. That stems from a lack of involvement in major competitions and, strangely in Levi's case, a lack of global commercial nous. While he may be master of the food concessions and the transfer master, Levi, as evidenced by the fact that at this stage in proceedings (for example yesterday, when the collective eyes of football were on WHL) - he still doesn't have a major sponsor in place to offset the building costs of the new stadium - a new sponsor would have revelled in yesterdays attention. Until Spurs make real progress in European club competitions they won't enjoy the revenue streams of the other top clubs - there's only so many shorts you can sell online to expats. Until that happens, Spurs will always lose one or two key players and the cycle of constant 'development' continues. sadly, as last year's woeful form at Wembley demonstrated, pitch size or not, Spurs will be unsettled by the move and are unlikely to continue the momentum built under Poch - who is himself likely to get cherry picked by one of the major Spanish clubs.
Glazzy-baby, if I were you I would be hanging my head in shame, this morning, my friend. Have you seen the headline in the tabloids in which it claims that Mourhino will make a £110m bid for Rose, Walker, and Dier. + Quite apart from the fact that you know full well Levy will laugh cruelly and sarcastically in his face as he's attempting to get his words out, this does not reflect at all well on your manager or the ethics of your club. So ****e is your manager that he is resorting to purchasing an entire defence from a superior club in his desperate attempt to buy glory! How pathetic is that! You clearly have little respect for the project that Poch and Levy are undertaking at a rejuvenated Spurs, but at the very least we have a team and players that the likes of Barca and Real are interested in. United aren't even close to top standards, this season, and I cannot see how Mourhino is going to be able to do anything other than keep taking you backwards.
On the contrary, it perfectly illustrates my point that, until Spurs attain and sustain European club football success, they will always be prey to the bigger clubs who will cherry-pick the best talent. Another top tip - don't always believe the crap you read in the papers.
