He didn't just grab his shirt though. He forcefully pulled him off the ground and started shaking him about while barraging him with insults. That is violent conduct clear as day and is without doubt a red card. People really need to stop trying to downplay what Barton done as it was unacceptable.
No, he was yellow carded for pushing Barton to the ground, then he was yellow carded a second time for shoving Nolan in the back, it was two yellow's not a straight red you absolute plank.
Watch the replay again, Barton was picking Gervinho off the floor he liked so much and Gervinho blew his top and leaped up and shoved Barton and then started grab him as well. If Gervinho had not of reacted the way he did then it would of been a nothing incident. For all the Arsenal supports comparing the incident to Diaby last year get real why don't you. Diaby grabbed Barton by the back of the neck and shoved him and then shoved Nolan in the back. Hardly the same as picking a player up by their shirt. Gervinho's was a stone wall red card, there can be no arguing about that, if you raise your hands you are off. Song should of got sent off for another stone wall red card and if he is not banned by the FA it will be a disgrace. There was contact between Gervinho and Tiote but Gervinho was looking for the contact and made it then fell to the foor which is simulation and against the rules. Barton got clearly slapped in the head which is a foul and red card offence, Barton went down to make sure the ref spotted it and sent Gervinho off, if Barton had not gone down then Gervinho proabably would of not got sent off when he deserved to be. Therefore Gervinho dived to gain something unfairly, while Barton dived to gain something fairly. To be honest I have found the whole Barton witch hunt disgusting, but not at all surprising.
how can anyone have a problem with this absolute peach of a respectable player? i mean, he's done his time, he's changed his life around!! why won't everyone just leave him alone to get on with his career? look at his behaviour on Saturday - he's now a complete model professional! <whataplanksuperfacepalmsmiley>
As far as I'm aware going down "easy" under contact is not against the rules. Biscuits didn't get punished for Barca when he got Milltio(?) sent off did he? The only reason Graham Poll had for sending Barton off was that equal action is an advised way to go. What nonsense, it's no wonder referees handle the game so badly if this is what they're told to do.
I wouldn't go for sarcasm when you're stuggling to string together a coherent sentence. Running before you can walk and all that
Leaped up and shoved Barton?? He barely manages to slap him on the side of the head while being pulled back by Tim Krul. I'll be courteous and actually provide you with a replay of the incident so you can view it yourself: http://fullhighlights.blogspot.com/2011/08/video-gervinho-slapped-joey-barton-and.html Joey Barton is the instigator of the incident and has no right to go manhandling someone, especially not in the aggressive manner in which he did as well as him appearing to use abusive language. It is violent conduct and the laws of the game state that violent conduct is a red card. This isn't a with hunt against Barton. The guy does himself no favours by getting involved in such incidents both on and off the pitch. He has only himself to blame and deserves all the criticism and flack he gets for it. The only thing disgusting is his own attitude and actions which he is unwilling to change. He's a 28 year old man is still behaving like an antisocial youth.
Thanks for clarifying but you could also try doing it politely but I suppose that just isn't you , is it?
I don't think Gervinho will be let off with the red to be honest. He raised his hand and that is usually a red so he's pretty much screwed. I wouldn't have any problem if it was recinded though. All of Saturdays events were blown out of all proportion. Song did not stamp on Joey, he stood on his calf to wind him up. It wasn't dangerous at all and as I say is just a bit of gamesmanship. We're getting too soft. Gervinho did go down easily and so did Barton. I don't think Barton should have been getting involved and should have let the ref deal with the dive. There was contact but certainly not enough to send him to the floor. Unfortunately this is also seen as gamesmanship elsewhere in the world, and this is why it cause so much furore over here. Quite happy just to move on from these minor incidents with no follow up for Gervinho or Sing but I'd imagine Gervinho's will stick. All in all a great point for us given Arsenal's quality and I dare say a good time to catch them. I think the point will look a whole lot better in time.
Thank you for proving Gervinho was on his up, before Barton grabbed his shirt. Makes it look even more of a yellow for Barton.
so who comes out of this with any credit? Barton - a mental case. Pardew - desparate man. Newc supporting JB fans - my God how things have changed. Ref - missed it all and guessed at what to do. Linesperson - a joke - what did he say to the ref? Szczesny - a long pointless run. Gervinho? at least he stood up for himself (sorry I couldn't resist it ) in trying to lamp that thug Barton.
Look at the replay when Barton grabs his shirts Gervinho leaps to his feet and shoves Barton and then it all kicks off. And by the way what Barton did by picking up Gervinho by the shirt is not violent conduct, it was probably worth a yellow card because he should of not of got involved but that is all. Sorry was Barton the player stamping on anyone or slapping them on the head yesterday? Oh no that's right Barton was the player getting stamped on and slapped by the Arsenal players. In the past couple of season the only bad thing Barton has done was hit Perdersen, compare that with other players such as Song, Wilshere, Diaby and you will see who has the worse behaviour on (or off) the pitch nowadays. Stop judging Barton on his past, he has admitted he has acted like a twat and he has tried to change which should by admired, especially when he has been mostly successful in changing despite players trying to wind him up by kicking and fouling him all the time while the refs ignore it.
Play acting is actually open to the refs interpretation. Generally though if you are not touched and take a dive you are punished and deemed to have tried to deceive the referee (not always a yellow of course). If you are struck and exaggerate it, you are deemed to have tried to gain an advantage over your opponent and acted against the spirit of the game. Its not a yellow card offence by the book but the ref is within his rights to book you if he sees fit.
The laughable part is that Barton is incandescent with rage about the alleged "dive" and then proceeds to do exactly the same after the "punch". You couldn't make it up.........................well maybe on twitter
SamirNasriIsAwanker: Stop trying to twist and make up things to make it worse than what it was. I really can't be arsed to argue that point anymore because clearly there is not going to be an agreement. If you do not believe that Barton has changed then why do you not prove it by listing all the things Barton has done wrong in the last couple of season? I will concede that he hit Pedersen which was a set back and very disappointing but that has been the only slip up really. He certainly has not spat at any taxi drivers, hit any women, grabbed anyone by the neck, or beat any students up in bars, unlike some Arsenal players.
The thing is if you field someone like Barton in your side you know you are taking a risk. As a manager you weigh that risk against the galvanising effect Barton can have on the team and it's obvious successive Newcastle managers believe the risk worth taking. What I find incongruous is that Newcastle fans have come on this board saying that they themselves have been critical of Barton which is honest, sporting and refreshing. However when someone else criticises Barton, Toon fans seem to think that is not on.....
Mifune are you f****** blind JB GErv and Song ALL DESERVED RED CARDS end of So take off your JB tinted glasses and STFU
