Read the reports of the Liverpool match. Carroll had a stinker. We all know the £35m was jaw dropping for it's size but has it affected AC?

At Newcastle the lad had little to prove. He was a product of the youth team, he was idolised as the local lad made good and he loved the shirt and the fans.

At Liverpool, they are probably the most vocal of all EPL fans as they have had a taste of recent glory and want to compete with the big boys........

In my view the expectations of Liverpool from their massive investment easily outweigh the expectations we had of the lad.

    All that glistens..........

Having a laugh aren't ya? They're horrendously bad at home unless it's a Champions League Semi Final.

You're right here. With us he was expected to grow into a great striker, now he's Liverpool's new signing with 35 million pounds worth of expectation hanging over him.
Last season whenever the press started creaming themselves over him to Hughton, the response was always: "Yep, he's a young lad with great potential who is still learning his game." Wise words from Hughton to keep everybody's (including Carroll's) feet on the ground in patience. That's all changed now, and I'll be honest I would just love it if he flopped like a fish on a boat.

Exactly. Instead of being able to develop into a great striker, he is now expected to be a great striker due to the money. Not that I give a **** about the greedy gypo twat.

What made him spend so much on him? Has he spent it on potential

He's expected to lead their line and be that 35 million striker now but in reality he wont hit those heights for about 2 years. Liverpool have made a mistake by not having a proven striker to play as he develops.

What potential? Henderson had one good season then one below average one. Sunderland's midfield at the time wasnt that hard to break into and they're always blooding youth, it's no surprise he got games.

What also makes Carroll look worse there is that they're a squad not best served by hoofing it forward, especially now that they have Suarez. But having him at a cost of 35m appears to be affecting their gameplan, and they look like they're trying to force the ball into him, to the detriment of their attack.

Agreed. Barton hoofing the ball directly to him suited us and him.

Andy Carroll cost more than David Villa <laugh>

There's no doubt that he could be a top striker, but as everybody says, the emphasis is on 'could'. £35m is a big burden to carry - if he doesn't score he'll be under huge scrutiny. With us he had the luxury that he could go 8 or 10 games without a goal with no real pressure - that won't be the case now. Torres struggles to cope with the weight of expectation at Chelsea and he's vastly more experienced.

BUT, if he succeeds at Liverpool we get more money so here's hoping.

How Carroll or Hendo get into the team ahead of Kuyt is beyond me. We should be going in with a 15 mio bid for Dirk Kuyt, he's a machine. Liverpool's best player in the last 5 years by a mile and half.

While Carroll was good for us last season I can't remember seeing Hendo doing anything special at all. Just a decent young player, like Milner or someone, not exactly fast, not excatly a brilliant crosser, just a decent young lad. Ashley Young on the other hand is going to be the bomb for ManU. I'm afraid they're going to run away with the league this year. Only Man city can really challenge them. As someone pointed out, 55 mio for carroll and Henderson is bizarre. Especially since they already had better players on their books.

No couldn't agree. I think he will live up to expectations. He was not brilliant on sat but to be fair Brown had an excellent game for Sunderland. They are still working out how to play with him too. They seem to be struggling to work out that he doesn't want it lumped to his head the whole time. He's best when fired into his chest where he can get his arse in and use his strength. I think he will be terrific in time. It was a lot of money but they have a very good player on their hands.

in my opinion charlie adam is a far superior player to henderson and gerrard picks himself when fit. downing is also better than henderson so is joe cole when he's fit. Kuyt has been on fire for some time now. so to spend all that on a lad that wouldn't even make it into the side when evryones fit is ridiculous.

Agreed, but the question is, will Kenny realise that? Sometimes I wonder if anyone actually watched how he scored his goals for us, or whether they just saw a big lad with a decent goal scoring record and assume they know how to utilise him

I think he will. I imagine he was frustrated with them on Saturday 2nd half. Carragher just started launching them at him. It actually helped Sunderland enormously because play broke down and gave them a fair bit of possession. I do think the rest of country need to catch up a bit with him. the number of times you see him labelled a big lump wreaks badly of people having never watched him, and as you say how he gets his goals.
