It depends on whether you're plagiarising her upcoming, post-impeachment tell all book or not.
Rumours that it's being ghost written by Michelle Obama are unconfirmed.

Trump? No, she'll dump that toxic brand and go solo, like Prince or Madonna.

At the risk of labouring the point about the NHS hack, it is worth breaking down to get an understanding of just what a ****up this involved

    * Windows XP was launched in 2001
    * Windows XP has not had a security update since 2008
    * The NHS is still using Windows XP in 2017, hence the cyber hack

And, no, I am not going to overlook the fact that the whole sorry affair could have been avoided if the operating system was upgraded in 2008 or earlier, when the country had a Labour government (although if you want to add inverted commas around the word "Labour" you can feel free to do so) - in fact I am going to take aim at both parties over this.

If you go back to the heady days of 2002, where Blackburn Rovers reaching a domestic cup final wasn't so bizarre (and I had to spend the afternoon in a Sheffield pub surrounded by Blackburn fans as we deflated out way to losing 2-1...) it was when the Dear Leader executed his visionary idea of Lorenzo, the IT system that would store data for every NHS patient north of the Watford Gap that was estimated to cost £3.1bn - a system which was beset by delays, poor planning, and simply not having any real thought put into it...which is why the eventual cost rose to a ****ing ludicrous £9.8bn by 2012 that the British taxpayer was footing the bill for, and got absolutely nothing out of.

So not only had so much money been pissed away on a system that was unworkable, and one that didn't even cover the entire country, but they knew full well that the system that was in place would be obsolete and at risk of being hacked for several years.

This is where the barrel of the gun swings in Cameron's direction, because even though he inherited this mess, there was no reason why he couldn't have torn up the contract once he was in power, after all he was happy to start so many sentences with "Under the last Labour government..." during PMQs he should have used that same sentence to kill the contract there and then, and with the contract dead he could (or, if you prefer, should) have set out to upgrade the NHS's system - but of course he had no interest in doing that as he had no interest in funding the NHS as he sought to dismantle it, and they sowed the seeds for what has made Jeremy Hunt conspicuous by his absence since yesterday afternoon - probably because the Tories also happened to...

    SMOKING GUN ALERT

...turn down the offer to upgrade their computer systems to save £5.5m - a move which is rapidly looking a lot like the time Thatcher decided that it was more important to save £2m a year than have a patrol ship in the South Atlantic...a move which enabled the Argentine military to invade the Falklands Islands, which meant a hell of a lot more than £2m was spent due to a slight case of Falklands War.

Yes, blame can just as easy be aimed at both Gordon Brown and Theresa May as they could have acted to redress the problem as well (although with May following on from Cameron's idea to asset strip the NHS until there's nothing left, like hell she ever would have) but between the two of them they had less than half the time either Blair or Cameron had to act.

The fact that the Tories had no problem finding £7bn to refurbish the House of Commons while having difficulty finding the funding to upgrade to Windows 10 is the cherry on the top.

Microsoft haven't supported Windows XP for years. They provide no security updates etc.
So now the security software for this system is nonexistent/redundant.
A hacker with primary school level IT skills has an open door to the NHS computer systems.
This government uses the same approach to austerity as council estate tenants.
We're not going to spend money on things we aren't bothered about because we want to spend money on things we think are important.
So we won't pay for house insurance as we'll take the chance we won't get burgled. We'd sooner spend the money on ***s and booze.
We won't spend money on public services as we'd sooner pay for tax breaks for the rich.
In both cases, they look like idiotic, irresponsible attitudes when it goes tits up.

whilst i agree with the tone of the post .
After Microsoft stopped supporting XP large entities could & did purchase ongoing support after it was withdrawn from the general public though that should only have been a temporary measure due to the support being
    a) costly
    b) not particularly swift

And yet we have Amber Rudd claiming the UK is world leader in cyber security - 24 hours after a remarkable amount of proof that we aren't!

What's worrying about this is that, according to the Times and Russia Today, Swivel Eyes is lining up Rudd to be the next Chancellor due to a falling out with Philip Hammond, a falling out which stemmed from Hammond pointing out that a U-turn on raising National Insurance would bite them in the backside, and May ignored him...only for the U-turn to bite them on the backside, and the Tories having to U-turn on their U-turn in response.

One large entity did not, as they preferred to do nothing and keep the £5.5m for themselves.

A large entity which, in the past three years, has contained the following people: David Cameron, Jeremy Hunt, Theresa May, George Osborne, Phillip Hammond and Amber Rudd.

  10. The U.K. government also had a contract with Microsoft that expired (and was not renewed) a couple of years ago. Continuing / renewing that would have likely eliminated this entirely, but this evening Tory 'sources' are absolving themselves and blaming the individual NHS Trusts who have local responsibility for IT infrastructure.
    That went well......... <doh>

It says it all that Amber Rudd is suddenly having to speak on behalf of the Health Secretary.

    Where is Jeremy Hunt?

Anyone who's enshrined in about the safest Tory seat in the country is made up. If he was in a marginal seat, it's highly likely he'd have been voted out with extreme prejudice two years ago.

meanwhile, here are two different views of Swivel Eyes' visit to Northumberland

so the individual depts were given time to make arrangements & it appears the NHS was the one which didn't bother.
this is one problem with splitting large organisations into parts as often you end up with the vulnerability of large organisations due to their numerous entry points added to problem of mish mash of arrangements.
weirdly i was in hospital on wednesday & thought it looked like they were running XP but thought don't be silly.
should have known better really <laugh>

mind you it turns out all sort of places still are

It's been reported that our Trident-carrying submarines also use Windows XP.

For some reason this came to mind...

  18. You also probably lose some economy of scale when it comes to negotiating software licensing contracts, although I don't have personal knowledge of the Enterprise contracts currently available to NHS Trusts.

Indeed. The fragmentation of the NHS into "commercial" (and competing) parts means that the powers that be clearly don't care about economies of scale, because these parts are often having to sign their own separate contracts. Good for the pen pushers and accountants, not sure about the patients though! There is no independent research into how much the internal market has saved the NHS, it is just assumed it is a better model. All I can say is that with the amount spent on administration, consultants and accounts to keep it running, it must have saved an awful lot!

I should also declare that my wife has worked for the NHS for nearly 30 years.
