In La Liga it is the "head to head" that puts one team ahead of another if level on points. It is a moot point, but if United win EL and finish let's say 6th, then 5th and 7th go into the group stages of the EL meaning 8th has to enter the qualifying rounds. I could live with that. The more European experienc the club gets the better it will be for the players, management and our psyche as fans.
