I'm guessing there'll be no dragging yourself up Cortez, I know as sure as hell I wont be sleeping Saturday night..
but does the keeper making a save count? the system failed since someone got aheader such as prudl vs jak right?
Our points tally was ****ed way before zonal marking, was it not? The "key games" are long gone. We lost them.
Carragher and Gary Neville had this discussion a few years ago. Carragher preferred Zonal Neville preferred man to man. Which defender had more success with his club side? Basically man to man everyone knows exactly who is accountable for what. Zonal marking creates uncertainty and indecision and as we have demonstrated numerous times this season, it gives the opposition the edge. Sunderland at home - shocking defending.
That was more to do with the style of play adopted by the manager and also selection of a very out form keeper and defenders.
was it phelans last game the west brom game? we were 1-0 up playing decentish.. and conceded 3 headers from inside the six yard box.. absolutely dire
Aye, we were pretty **** in all departments. I do believe that on paper zonal marking should be superior but it takes a certain mindset. It counter intuitive to mark an area because it's naturally easier to follow one man but if you're playing the system effectively and it's drilled in, then in theory you're covering more ground per man, and have a greater chance of clearing the ball.
I have never seen zonal marking played well. Clubs are multi national now with multiple languages. It's much easier to say he's your man - he's your responsibility. Remove all doubt as to who is doing what. It's a simple game, don't over complicate it.
The picture that shows the stupidity of zonal marking. 3 Leicester players all with a run on our players climb 2-3 feet higher as ours are all static along the 6 yard line. Resulted in a goal. Harrys even facing the wrong way as he's positioned to defend the front post, the balls gone over his head and he's turned round- a ****ing spectator our best headerer. I don't disagree. If we somehow stay up and Marco continues in his role though, he won't drop zonal marking and we'd be a great deal better at it next season. All academic, though.
I may sleep all day tomorrow... SATs week has killed me at work ha! No matter how early, I'll be on that coach. Even if I have to chase it to Goole.
