All we need to do is stop ****ing about with this **** idea of Zonal defending. He ditches that - we win. Simple.

    From last week...

    Rick ‏@HullCityLive
Marking was poor yesterday but anyone linking it to zonal marking has got Alzheimer's. Before MS, it was happening every game.

Bad defending with a zonal system and bad defending with man-to-man marking are both just bad defending

btw I like Rick but using Alzheimer's like that is thoughtless to say the least , horrible disease

He's ok at writing some stuff - but this he has totally wrong. It's everything to do with zonal marking.

When players have grown up playing and having a man to mark responsibility. Then to move to zonal - it's bollocks. Liverpool operate zonal marking - look at the goals they have conceded from set plays. He should stick to writing.

Agree GLP. 3 men on the front post last week and O'Shea gets to the ball first. Absolute garbage. Palace will murder us.

I also agree - very poor choice of words from Rick. You shouldn't be using a horrible disease in an attempt to put across your point, no matter how uneducated and dumb his point is/was.

A lot of the problems with zonal marking is body shape! As the cross came in most of our players we're facing our goal! They all know where the goal is it's the opposition coming in behind ya that you have to keep an eye on! AND it's easier to head clear of goal it really isn't that hard!

With Man marking everyone knows exactly what there job is when defending a set piece. Zonal is too flowery and you can see it time and time again the advantage lies with the attacking team as you're reacting to a situation rather than being pro active. It is total bollocks and highly ineffective.

I'm not a fan of zonal marking i'd rather see them man-marking. I'm not bothered with Rick's use of the word Alzheimers.

I prefer the blended approach - have your tallest/best players in the air mark the most threatening opposition players, and have everyone else set up guarding zones.

I don't see that working myself. Just work out who you are marking and assign players to players etc. then stick a man on each post. Done.

Different strokes for different folks. I don't think looking for ways to get an edge on opponents is a bad thing.

People suggesting we just do what everyone else is doing and not experiment.
