I was surprised at the result too. They were fortunate to score first otherwise with 3-0 Lyons would have gone through. They really should have been more comfortable with a 4-1 lead. Instead they were close to being knocked out.

It will depend on how well their defence cope with the fast counters by Rashford and mikitarian.

It's youth v money in the final. If Ajax win then this will be named the new generation for Dutch football, something they've been crying out for in years.

    Good football vs boredom.

Used to watch utd more in the past, hoping they would drop points etc, but this season its just painful to watch.

I haven't watched a lot of football when it comes to Chelsea or Man u. with Chelsea its gone back to when they used to just batter teams and seeing as it's never an entertaining match due to the fact i don't really wanna watch it.

Man u away from home is a chore, at home they do pose a threat but lack the killer edge.

Liverpool in 2017 have been dire to watch bar a few results.

Utd looked dead on their feet last night.
They will be favourites but i wouldn't be confident.

Ajax are suspect at the back but if their young team don't freeze on the big night, then they can give utd problems.

Either way, its a final with some real European pedigree (although jose saying it's fit for a CL final is hilarious)

As for the top4, that is a write off for them. Expect a sacrificial stiffs team for spurs and against palace. The team for the final, will get a run out against saints midweek.

    in the end:

    Utd are in final.

Ajax are also in the final... they finished 2nd in Dutch league losing the tiel due to one more draw than PSV (they had superior GD) This puts ajax into play offs for CL groups

Please note... if Utd win they go ino the gorup stage of CL. However if Ajax win they won't they will still only go to play offs.... why? cos dutch league is not in top 10 counties in uefa rankings

    1. this win matters to ajax from winning a cup, to push the dutch league back up into top 10 and for the pride. They can still be in groups of CL by winning a play off next year

    2. This win matters to utd as if they fail (based on expected 6th place in league this year) they will be in europa and the 300k per week wages are all that will get them players... it will also damage thier sponsorship. In other words yes they are playing for a tophy most fans don't care about but its all about the money

One club is for pride, the other is all commerical.

I would say both commercial and pride for the Mancs. Their pride as a big club would surely be wounded if they didn't win the final as well as missing the CL again.

I'd care about it. I was really disappointed we didn't make it last year.
I get your point though, these days it's all about the money.

yes that's you and me... but to a manc? a plastic? this is the cup that's 2nd tier. That's their mentality :)

    I was disappointed too.

No. Whoever wins go straight into the group stage as both CL finalists will qualify for the group stage through their league position.

Also, the dutch league is over. Ajax can still win it! Probably wont though.

Me too, I hope the Mancs lose(obviously), all the crying from Maureen about the amount of games they've had to play in a short space of time, and about how it was unfairly detrimental to their league campaign has made my eyes bleed, and no-one from the press having the bottle to point out that we were in a similar predicament last season with far less bitching from our manager shows them for the hacks they are.<laugh>

If they do end up in the CL i hope they don't get another soft draw.

I'd like to see em given a reality check by Real, Bayern or Juve!

I know but i meant the group draw.

Sadly they will just scrape in pot2 as one the lowest seeds. pot3 would opened up a group of death.

The reality is they will not be top seeds so they have to go in no 2 in group after this EL run. they are currently 15th and could get to 12/13?

we are 34th and will drop btw... so will be 3rd or 4th seeds

So the issue for utd is the same as it will now be for city and for spurs... spurs are 20th. they could even be 3rd seeds. You will be in a group with league winners. It could be germany, italy, spain... but it could also be PSG or other lesser lights.

2nd seeds are there to just go through. 3rd seeds like us if we manage it are really facing an uphill fight to get out of a group at all. thats just reality.
