Why the hell should he be rescinded his red card?

He slapped Barton so deserved his red card, raising your hands to a players face is a red card.

He got a red card for slapping, not a dive.

I bet the ref or linesman did not see the slap, and do not worry he will get his next sat in the derby if he tries that on a SAFC player and the supporters will most likely get him, he was pelted with coins and bottles last time!.He seems to get away with allsorts, and Gervinho was tripped in the box.

What is the point of Joey Barton? Surely one of the most overrated players of all time. I can't believe that we were considering signimg him.

  7. To the looney Toons who have contributed to this thread

I know the rules. I merely suggested that as in a court of law, provocation be taken into account. It is only fair after all.

I do not see why you bother defending Barton if that is your purpose here. The man is a disgrace. Perhaps you'll read this too and realise that Barton should have ben sent off and we awarded a penalty.

Graham Poll says nothing that we didnt already know in that article, Song should be investigated by the FA and Gervinho was rightly sent off.

The "penalty" was clearly a 50/50 as Gervinho was already on the way down when he made contact with Lord Tiote's boot.

Grabbing Gervinho's shirt is a yellow card offence, Gervinho raising hands and making contact is a sending off, both acted unprofessionally but we're punished accordingly. So stop whinging, admit that you didnt win due to your own teams shortcomings NOT JOEY BARTON. And move on.

At least we'll be playing in europe, whereas you'll be fighting to avoid relegation. Barton should be sent off in every game he plays, and Gervinho was fouled in the box, meaning a penalty. Alex Song had the right idea, stamping on the twat, and if i were Gervinho, i would have decked him, rather than slapped him.

The thing is that he didn't just grab Gervinho's shirt ... he positively manhandled him, pulling him up by his shirtneck from the ground. That's excessively violent behaviour, and deserving of a red card.

  11. Thank you for following this thread but I think you missed my point.

I wasn't whinging about not winning. My thread was about whether Gervinho's case may be reviewed in the light of what Barton said and now it appears too by the stated opinion of another professional and more experienced referee.

Nice to see fans actually being honest about their own players, as I know it's tempting to try and defend your own.

Regarding Barton though, the FA need to have the power to punish anything retrospectively. Because Walton handed Barton a yellow, I think that means that he (unlike Song, whose stamp was nothing short of horrific) can't be punished retrospectively as the ref took action on the "misdemeanour". Which is a joke, as Barton thoroughly deserved an early bath, and the ban that would have followed.

God, the Arsenal fans sound more like their manager every day.

Your player slapped another around the head, he was sent off, get over it.

  15. Last year Diaby was sent off for picking up our friend barton by the scruff of his neck. SImilarly barton should have been red-carded.

I'm over it but really you ought to get with it.

Have you actually read this thread?

Re-read what SamirNasriIsA****** has posted. The red card was deserved.

Grabbing a shirt - Yellow card
Slapping someone in the face - Red card

If you guys are moaning about facts so much, let's look at the facts. There are rules in place and you can't bend them based on the circumstances. If grabbing someones collar is a yellow card, you can't claim it's 'excessive shirt grabbing' and give them a red. The slap is the same. Whether it's a light slap on the cheek or a punch in the middle of the face, it's hitting another player, and it's a red card.

    Get over it.

  18. Heck if you are going to get hung for stealing a chicken as you would a cow, you might as well steal a cow. Gers should have decked Barton <laugh>

Remember Barton play acted as well. Was it a real slap anyway? OK let's not get in to that or we'll still be on this thread this time next week.

Well the results would have been the same either way so yeah, if Gervinho was gonna hit Barton and take the punishment, he could have gave him a proper smack.

Gervinho flung his arm out and clipped Joey on the cheek with his hand, so it was a slap I reckon.

Not too keen on Gervinho's attitude so far though. In his very first EPL game he seemed to be looking for every opportunity to go down and take a dive. I know that's a part of modern football these days, but you would think that on his debut he'd want to try and impress the fans and battle on.

Gervinho should have got a red card for the incident and Song's stamp should be investigated. Saying that, Barton really needs to cut out his thuggery and should also get a red card for inciting and aggressively grabbing Gervinho.

It's strange to say but i'm enjoying Barton's funny twitter remarks, it's a shame he can't cut out his behaviour on the pitch.
