The club have got YouTube to pull the TigerTube channel, something the strikes me as both unnecessary and disappointing. I always found it a good place to go to look back at some of our best goals in past games and I can't see any reasonable justification for getting it taken down. The channel was run by Amber Nectar and this is what they had to say about it: A few months ago, former City defender Jon Whitney expressed thanks for putting old highlight clips on our YouTube channel, as heâd finally been able to convince his sons that heâd scored with a ludicrously long range shot against Peterborough in 1999. On Friday, YouTube terminated our popular TigerTube channel after Hull City complained about our use of some 12 year old footage of a Division Three game. Presumably City want to charge people to see this stuff on their Tigers Player thingy and donât want such content freely available; still, it leaves a sour taste in the mouth. City made no attempt to communicate with us, we could have taken off club-produced footage and let the old Calendar, Look North, Match of the Day and Anglia TV stuff remain. We canât help but feel that this was a little personal, given that weâve been critical of the clubâs CEO and staff changes of late. Many other City clips remain, including some taken straight from Tigers Player! If stopping copyright violation is the main motive for complaint, surely youâd look at current highlights with genuine commercial value rather than grainy footage of City playing, in some cases, 30-40 years ago. If that isnât the case, then the club has the right to reply. A poor move by the club in my opinion.
I wonder who made that decision ? Totally unnecessary and will prove to be unpopular as well . All in all a bad call from the club .
Write a letter in...they do listen and reply. I got a response regarding my criticism of the new shirts.
I heard about this, very strange decision from the club as they will never be arsed to do something like this. Just look at the piss poor amount of tigers museum pictures they've put on flickr. I'm gutted personally as i never thought I'd find the footage of the banner my sister and I made for the leyton orient game in 2001 until appeared on tigertube.
****ing half-wits, can't believe they have done this, what happened to them listening to supporters this season? Just get it all posted under different guises, they will never be able to pull all clips.
It didn't seem to be doing any harm and I don't think it is taking any money from the club. However if you are going to post stuff on you tube that you don't own the rights too it is probably best not to upset the person/company who does!
Surely they need to explain why? It's not as if it was damaging the "brand", it's not as if they're taking it over. There is no justification whatsoever. Someone needs to get a statement from the club... This has to be challenged. I'm loathe to cite Paul Duffen, but what he said after the Play-off final is right - the people in charge now are the custodians, it's the fans who are the club - and this is dealing with the clubs history. What harm is it to them? Absolute disgrace.
I d expect this is a sign that there will be an 'all our yesterdays' tab on City Player soon. At an additional charge of course
Is there confirmation anywhere that the club made the complaint and that it's not been "the copyright holder" that they've interpreted as being the club? Because of the fact all the media rights are sold as packages covering all clubs in the league (ie you buy Football League highlights not Hull City highlights) I think it's technically the Football League that are the rights holders, and they've sold the online rights to a combination of the BBC and Premium TV (whatever they're called now) so it could just as easily be any of those bodies who've made the complaint.
A response from the club: It was never the intention of the club for the 'TigerTube' channel to be completely removed and we certainly did not ask for that to happen. However, we did ask for footage taken directly from our TIGERS Player service to be removed which we felt was fair as people pay their hard-earned money to view this material exclusively. No doubt YouTube’s reasons for taking Tiger Tube offline are related to our requests but we reiterate that it was not our intention for that to happen. I've asked them to contact YouTube and make this clear to them, in the hope that most of it will be reinstated.
That's fair enough from the club's point of view. The difficulty now will be getting any sense out of Youtube... I've known people have trouble with them before regarding blocked accounts - they're about as easy to deal with as the Moderators on the old 606...
